The group retreated to the kitchen to eat Romeo's pizza. They sat around the kitchen table with an uncomfortable silence.
"You know guys since I'm like your cure...I'm the most important one, right? I can't die?" Kalani asked interrupting the silence with a big smile on her face. She had Romeo make her salad since apparently pizza had too many calories and too much grease.
"Well....I guess since you're the only available known cure." Katia said nudging up her glasses.
"Hm...I'm probably the only one too. I mean I was always special." Kalani replied staring into her salad smiling like someone inside it was complementing her.
Kristina wanted to blurt out she wasn't, but then she would have to prove how she knew and she didn't have time for that. Plus, there was a chance the group would pin her as a traitor.
"Hm..." Kristina said instead.
"Uh...I don't mean to be a bother, but what do we do with the cure?" Romeo said referring to Kalani. He spoke the question that was on everyone's mind. Yet, no on had an answer.
"Well...we could take her to a hospital or something so they can examine her but they couldn't do much I guess..." Katia offered.
"Uh...people poking me with weird things in weird places? I'm good." Kalani said. Everyone ignored her except Gaby who just gave her a glance that had 'your crazy' written all over it.
"Well in most shows I've watched we have to take 'the cure' to a research lab or somethin" Kristina added.
"I'm a living being not just some object!" Kalani protested. Everyone ignored the comment again, and kept talking on where to go until Gaby remembered something.
"Guys! Remember back at Camille's place!" Gaby said.
"Oh please don't bring up that lady. I don't think she likes or trusts us either way. We did raid her shop, and lock her in a room." Xander replied.
"But wait! She had this book titled....uh...titled..." Gaby focused in trying to remember the title. She was looking at the books Camille had, but there was a golden book that caught Gaby's eye. She read the title, but she couldn't quite...
"I GOT IT! IT WAS TITLED 'THE Z.A'!" Gaby exclaimed jumping to her feet. She wore a proud expression on her face. She took a deep breath and sat down.
"Uh...what does that have to do with anything?" Ash asked just as confused as everyone else.
Xander remembered the book, but he had crossed it out as an option because they had locked her up and stolen her stuff.
"Duh! You can't be that stupid! Z.A stands for Zombie Apocalypse." Gaby said like a scientist explaining what H2O was.
"No mean to doubt you fair lady, but it could as well stand for something else." Romeo countered to Gaby.
"Well, there's not much else it could stand for. I'm with Gaby." Elizabeth voted. The group entered a silence reserved for voting decisions.
"I'm with Romeo. It seems risky." Nathan said after a while.
"How does he even get to vote?" Gaby asked, while Devin gave her a glare.
"Sh! I'm keeping score." Kristina said. She had a piece of paper in front of her making tally marks.
"Romeo." Ash said.
"Gaby." Kristina mumbled tallying herself on the paper.
"Gaby." Gaby voted for herself.
"Gaby." Katia sighed. If she voted for Romeo she'd either look like a jerk, or raise Gaby's suspicions that she liked him. She didn't need either at the moment.
"Romeo." Jax bit into his pizza.
"Romeo." Devin followed patting Nathan on the shoulder.
"Romeo." Kalani said with the undertone of annoyance.
The group looked at Xander and Romeo. They were the two last people who needed to vote. Gaby had four votes while Romeo had five.
"I'm voting for Gaby. It sets the balance. Then, we can have a fair decision." Romeo said. Kristina shrugged and marked down a tally for Gaby.
Xander looked between Gaby and Romeo. Gaby looked annoyed while Romeo had a happy expression on his face.
"Wait!" Gaby shouted and ran over to Kristina. She knelled next to Kristina and whispered into her ear.
"Do something! Influence him to choose me. I know we can find something in the book and live, and Xander's going to ruin it. Do you really want your boyfriend to go down in history as the man who destroyed the world?" Gaby whispered quickly.
Kristina turned to Gaby.
"One, if the world was destroyed no one would remember he destroyed the world because there's no world to begin with. Two, he's not my boyfriend," Gaby mumbled sure," and three I'll persuade him." Kristina concluded.
Gaby patted her friend's back, and went back to her seat smiling triumphantly.
Kristina turned and smiled at Xander. Xander looked at her confusion written all over his face.
"Uh...R-" Xander started. Kristina glared at him. Xander suspected that if he voted for Romeo he would have to deal with a pissed of Kristina and Gaby.
"I vote for Gaby." Xander changed quickly.
"And we go!" Gaby shouted in happiness. Kristina shrugged, balled the paper up, and threw it into the trashcan.
"Okay, everyone we leave tomorrow. Nathan thanks for letting us stay and eat your food. Kalani I'll get your pack ready and-" Kristina started giving orders until Devin interrupted.
"Isn't Nathan coming?" Devin asked. He stared lovingly at Nathan, and then back to Kristina.
"Uh...let's just say Nathan's not fit for battle." Kristina replied with a nervous giggle. She hated to argue with people. Most of the time she could avoid it, because people usually did what she said.
"What do you mean?! You're being very mean towards him. He can do it!" Devin said.
"Devin look we don't-" Kristina started sympathetically, and walked cautiously over to Devin.
"Excuses!" Devin burst out. He shoved Kristina back. She knocked into Ash. Ash pushed her back to Devin on reflex. Kristina cursed.
"Devin calm the fuck down! You want him to get hurt! He'll most likely turn into a Z. They say love is blind but please!" Kristina said quite harshly. Kristina hated to argue not because she lost, but because she always knew how to break someone. The words just burst out of her mouth.
Kalani snickered from the couch. She loved to see other people mess up especially people she hated.
Tears started to reach Devin's eyes. Turning the whites around the irises red. The room was dead quite.
Kristina couldn't feel guilt. She didn't know why, but she couldn't. She hated silence, so she just stood there waiting for Devin to speak. From that time Kristina noticed Nathan had left the room.
"I-I'm no-not-t taking y-you th...then." Devin said his voice tight to the point where it physically looked like it pained him to speak.
Kristina sighed. She should've suspected it. Even she didn't know how to get back to Camille's place.
"Fine Devin. Have it your way. We'll take Nathan, but remember. Remember that in case he dies it falls on you." Kristina said and pointed at Devin.
Devin looked at Kristina. Kristina could read the pain off his eyes. Yet, she couldn't do anything about it. She felt like a helpless mother telling her child what she had to.
After a long silence, Kristina spoke again.
"Everyone go to sleep. Now." Kristina said tiredly.
"But-" everyone said jumping back to life.
"No buts. Kalani sleep with Elizabeth. Devin have Nathan sleep in your room. Everyone. Rooms. Now." Kristina said. Everyone began to flood out of the room.
Kristina grabbed Ash's sleeve, and held him back. Soon, the room was empty.
Kristina turned to Ash and made a decision she would regret forever.
"I'll take you to see her, A.W."
"Actually its A.D"
"Shut up before I change my mind." Kristina walked over to the door with Ash behind her. They quietly sneaked out.
