Zombie Apocalypse

Chapter 26

Romeo, Xander, Kristina-
"Kristina, why do we have to climb the trees? Isn't there a better way?" Romeo asked. His limbs hurt and he didn't really like the height they were at. Back when he was a rebel he fell of a tree into Mrs.Grazers, his algebra teacher, yard. It didn't go so well.
"If there was a better way don't you think I would've thought of it?" Kristina hissed. She was mad she had to save the group. She didn't want to. She wanted to run and be free and survive on her own. Do it all on her own. Sometimes, she felt like that was all they needed her for. To save them when they messed up. She felt used inside and out.
"No need to be mean about it." Xander mumbled.
Kristina sighed. She spotted Katia, Nathan, and Devin down below them. She held up her hand in a stop signal for the two boys behind her. She glanced below assessing the situation. She spotted Ash much farther behind them, so they had some time. She shot down the Zs that were carrying his chair to slow them down. She saw Devin hurt, limping, trying to cover Nathan. She saw Katia whacking away with her bat glancing nervously at Devin. Kristina shot all the Zs in a fifteen inch radius of Devin. Then, she helped Katia. She couldn't draw to much attention to herself, so she stopped.
"I know you have your own reasons, but aren't we going to help?" Romeo asked.
"I know they're dying out there!" Xander whisper shouted.
"That's why you are going to help them." Kristina said and smiled.
"What do you mean?" Xander asked.
"Don't break anything." Kristina said. She smiled evilly, and stood up. She ran across the branch, and pushed both Romeo and Xander off. Kristina ran to the next tree and used the leaved to cover herself. She went to slow down Ash's army.

Romeo and Xander-
"Ah!" Romeo yelled. He hit the ground hard, and struggled to regain his breath.
"Romeo!" Xander yelled. He thumped down on the ground next to Romeo. He sprung up onto his feet like the drop was nothing.
"Stupid Mrs. Grazers said this would happen." Romeo muttered with hatred. He painfully got up.
"What?" Xander asked. All he heard was stupid, and he hoped Romeo hadn't been talking about him.
"Nothing, let's just go and battle to the death." Romeo said distastefully.
Xander had an uneasy feeling about battling to the death. Romeo wasn't really helping the situation. With fear or not, he still went to Devin's side as Romeo sprinted to Katia's side. They five stood in a straight line.
"Where's Kristina?" Katia asked.
"Don't know. She pushed us off a tree to help you, and then she left." Xander answered over the noises of battle.
"Nice to know you came willingly." Devin said through his teeth. He was tired, he felt lightheaded, and he just wanted to collapse. Yet, he couldn't because he had to protect Nathan. It was a lot harder than he had originally thought. He kept screaming, high pitched squeals, whenever a Z came near. Nathan had only succeeded in making Devin jumpy, edgy, extremely afraid, and nervous.
"We didn't ask to be knocked off a tree either to be fair." Romeo said. He stood looking around while the others battled.
"Aren't you going to do anything!?" Nathan yelled at him.
"I am!" Devin yelled.
"Not you, Romeo!" Nathan yelled back.
"I would if I currently wasn't watching the spectacle of Gaby taking a certain interest in our ex-friend Ash." Romeo replied placidly.
"What?!" Katia yelled.

Kristina Gaby, and Kalani-
I swear if Gaby and Kalani are not okay I'm going to freak. I can't be climbing all over the forest to try to get the group to assemble. Yet, that's exactly what I'm doing.
Kristina sighed. She loved nature, and as a child she loved to climb trees. In any other circumstance, she would be enjoying this moment. Except it was a Zombie Apocalypse and the chance of her surviving Ash's army without anyone else dying was slim.
She climbed as fast as she could scouring the forest for any signs of Kalani and Gaby. Then, she heard it.
"If I was in charge we would've already be out of this nasty forest. It's not sanitary or necessary to be here." Kalani said to Gaby.
Kristina hadn't even thought a word like necessary was in Kalani's vocabulary, but the girl always said her shampoo was necessary in an apocalypse. She climbed down a little further, and jumped down as gracefully as she could.
"Ahh-" Kalani started to scream. Kristina immediately clamped her hand over her mouth.
"Gaby, we have to go. Quickly. There's an army, and I left the others by themselves." Kristina said as quickly as she could, while Kalani tried to yank Kristina's hand from her mouth.
"Oh. Okay then." Gaby said simply. She knew exactly what she was going to say to Ash when she saw him.
"Follow me." Kristina said and removed her hand from Kalani's mouth.
"You little-" Kalani started.
"Bitch? Yeah, I know, but we don't have time for that." Kristina said and scrambled up the tree.
Kalani just sighed and climbed up after her with help from Gaby. They scrambled back to where Ash's army was. Kristina led them directly there without any detours. If they had good luck they could possibly distract Ash with Gaby. Then, the other would get the message and look for them. They arrived and perched on a branch looking down at Ash telling his army the plan.
"What do we do?" Gaby asked.
"Good question." Kristina smiled. For the second time that day, she got up pushed Kalani and Gaby, off the tree, into the center of the army, and quickly fled.

Gaby and Kalani-
"Catch her!" Ash shouted and pointed at the screaming Gaby falling from the sky. Well, the tree.
One of the Zs caught Kalani instead of Gaby. Gaby fell, flailing wildly, to the ground. She felt a sharp pain flare up her ankle. She checked to see if it was broken, but it only had a gash from the ankle down to her smallest toe. She replaced her shoe, and looked around her. It was dead silence and everyone stared at her like she was an angel fallen from the sky. Except for Skylar. She looked at Gaby with pure hatred.
"Uh....Hello?" Gaby asked.
"Gabriela, you don't know how long I've waited for you." Ash said. He strutted over to her, as the Zs parted to let him pass.
"I actually prefer Gaby." Gaby confessed. She looked at her surroundings. Two Zs had gagged and were holding Kalani. She had fainted, so she sagged in their grip. She looked back for Kristina in the tree, but she wasn't there anymore. She heard the distance sounds of war. Probably, between the Zs and her friends. Though she doubted they would still want to be friends after this.
Ash flinched. "Okay, Gaby. Listen I need to ask you a very important question. I want to know if you'll come with me. We could rule the Z population together." Ash told her. He knelled on one knee, and looked at Gaby in the eye. A sort of desperation masked by happiness was all Gaby could see.
Gaby didn't know why she liked Ash. She saw him and saw a brave king leading his army into battle. She would have freedom. She wouldn't be lonely, because she had Ash. It all worked out for Gaby.

She was about to open her mouth to answer when Kristina burst through.
"Gaby! Wait! He's not who you think he is! I command you as your leader to not say a word!" Kristina yelled. She elbowed past Zs, and ran over to were Gaby sat. She knocked over Ash and ignored him completely.
"Look, I know what he's promising you seems like so much. So much in your benefit, but its not. I promise you you'll live a life of misery of...of despair! Gaby we all love you! Like family. You have to come back to us. You can't choose him. He's not what you think he is! He's my brother! He lied to you!" Kristina said desperately. She left out the part that she herself lied to Gaby, but she had a feeling Ash would point that out in a bit.
"She lied to you too. She has the power to stop this apocalypse, but she's a coward. She can't do it." Ash spat out at Kristina.
Kristina knew she was losing the argument, but she couldn't start losing friends. She looked around and saw Xander, Devin, Katia, Elizabeth, Jax, and Nathan standing looking intently at Ash.
Kristina's world crumpled. Her mind took her to the sandy calm beaches of California. For a moment all was silent. She stood up.
"Gaby, I thought you were my friend, but now I begin to doubt you," Kristina said seriously her head bent.
"See Gaby even she doubts you." Ash said in his defense. "I would never had doubted you." He added.
"Prove to me you're still my friend." Kristina said solemnly. She patiently waited for Gaby to answer.
Thoughts swarmed Gaby's head. Gaby's decision wavered, but then again Kristina did doubt her. Ash was right. It's not like no one really cared about her on the team except for Katia, and perhaps Elizabeth. She was just another fighter in an apocalypse. Just used like a pawn by Kristina. She had to show the others what Kristina was doing. She had to set the example. It was up to her. She stood up triumphantly pushing down the pain in her foot. She first turned to her friends.
"This woman," Gaby pointed at Kristina,"lied to you. Deceived you all. Can you really trust who you're with? Do you really know her? I don't. I can't live a lie." Gaby tuned back to Ash. Kristina slumped in defeat her hand moving slowly to her dagger.
"I'm going with you." Gaby said and smiled at Ash. Katia let out a yelp. Her eyes began to water. Kristina knew this disappearance wasn't going to go down as smoothly as Ash's.
Ash smiled triumphantly.
"Get a chair for the lady! We shall celebrate!" He bellowed.
Kristina quickly unleashed her dagger and stabbed out at Gaby. She yelped causing Ash to sway his arm in the way. It protruded and splattered Kristina, Gaby, and Ash with his blood. Kristina yanked her dagger out.
"Run!" Kristina yelled.
"Attack!" Gaby yelled back. The Zs got the message and sprinted after Kristina. Others went to where Katia and the others were standing.
Ash half withered in pain and half smiled, so he looked like a cheerful grandpa on his deathbed.
"You are going to make a great leader." Ash said proudly before he fainted.
