Marianne tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, the strands bunched together and blocked her view of the outside world. Her knees brought up to her stomach and her arms wrapped around them.

She'd have those moments, the unbearable pain in her stomach where she felt a million pins sticking into her. She'd have the pain beneath her gums where the fangs had tried to dig their way back through. The rain pelted on the window as the mood plateaud, everything was too depressing.

"My magic, that's gone" she said, trying to be optimistic but it inevitably failed. "I'm trying so hard to come to terms with it, but I can't see my future anymore, I can't see anything"

"You wanted to enjoy your last few moments" Elijah pulled her up to her feet "you are sure you're going to feed?"

"How can I not?" She burst out "I only just got my life back, how can I leave it?"

"Well, as you would tell me 'stop moping' and follow me, I've planned something together" Elijah replied to her, kissing her hand. There was something about his touch that stopped the pain, it stopped everything.

"You would be okay, wouldn't you?" She asked "if I turned"

"You wouldn't be any different in my opinion" Elijah smiled at her "now come on before I forget the route I planned"

Marianne followed Elijah's footsteps down through the compound and then outside. He was walking her a lengthy distance, in the rain.

"Elijah I'm not a vampire yet, I cannot walk that far" she shouted to him, out of breath. Marianne kept trying to catch up with him when she realised she was hopelessly lost in the bayou.

"Wait for me" the last burst of energy flowed through her body before she felt crippling fatigue. Her bones cracked and she had to slow down to a halt and take a deep breath.

Elijah realised his pace had been too quick, it started out amusing however he neglected to remember her deteriorating state. He stepped back and helped her stand straight, her hands gripped onto him and she placed her weight on him.

"Where are we?" She asked as they ducked under a wall of leaves and into a lagoon like area.

"You don't remember?" He asked her "I'd be offended if you have forgotten"

It took her a moment, well, longer than a moment because instead of only thinking about where she was, she was also battling with a lack of energy and a persistent hunger.

The rain had laid off now, she felt the last few drops on her skin before it stopped, to her relief.

She had to sit down before she even began to convince Elijah that she did remember, but as soon as she touched the floor, as soon as she looked beyond the leaves in front of her. She remembered and it took her breath away completely.

"This place has a lot of memories" she tried to play it off that she knew straight from the beginning, but her mind where it wasn't supposed to be. "I sat here those years ago and I agreed the begin the rest of my life with you"

"This was the place I laid you to rest aswell" Elijah didn't want to put a downer on everything, but it emphasised how special this place was.

"I'm glad it hasn't been claimed by the wolves" she smiled "no offence but they're taking over most of the bayou"

"When I first took charge, my first priority was to get this area cleared from any creature, it was never going to be theirs, it's ours" Elijah smiled to her "and it's only fair that you start the rest of your life here like you agreed to last time"

Elijah rolled up his sleeves and showed his wrist to her "if you would agree to this?" He needed her confirmation before he drew blood.

She nodded her head quietly "it's only fair we do it here"

Elijah bit into his wrist and drew blood, quickly pushing it in Marianne's direction. She looked down at it, feeling her muscles weaken and she knew it was now or never. Did she want to die this way? Of course not. Not for the third time.

She pressed her lips against his cold wrist and threw caution to the wind. She shut her eyes tightly and began to drink the blood, her fangs extended and she pierced his wrist more to take more. She felt euphoric, like she wanted more and more, but somehow she stopped.

Her eyes were open and Elijah had slid a daylight ring onto her middle finger, because when she would escape these trees, she'd burn to a crisp. But that wasn't what caught her attention.

The glimmering diamond ring that must have been on her finger for a while now almost blinded her.

She wiped her mouth clean and looked up at him, her eyes glistening with tears. Not yet sure if they were happy or sad tears.

"You're immortal now, you're unable to die" Elijah was almost whispering "Marianne, we've been through a lot together and I promise this time I'm not going to kill you... again"

"I hope not, the next time will be quite permanent" she added.

"I'm sorry for everything I've done, and everything I might do in the future, but I hope you'll still be there for me" Elijah started "I know you've probably guessed my next question from the stunned look on your face and the fact my mother's ring is on your ring finger"

"But Marianne, I hope to spend my entire eternal supernatural life with you, I want to be there when you wake up with a crippling hunger, I want to be there with you when you feed from your first human, everything. I don't care if it's pretty, I don't care if you're spitting blood out of everywhere. I want you."

"Will you marry me?"

"Of course"
