"I shouldn't have been so hard on her" Elijah realised as he went over the whole conversation in his head. Rebekah sparked the realisation when she repeated to him what Marianne wanted him to know.

He called her a lost cause. How hurtful would that be? He could imagine the heartbreak she would have gone through.

Elijah stood from his chair and decided against Mariannes wishes. He didn't want to go there to shout or cause a commotion, he wanted to apologise for his words. Hopefully she'd understand it was a hard time.

He walked up to her door, it being eerily quiet. But he knocked anyway, she could probably be asleep. There was no answer or sound of shuffling inside. "'Marianne?" He called in case she didn't hear the knock at the door. "I know you're mad with me, please, let me explain"

Still nothing. "Elijah, she was in bed when I left her" Rebekah saw her brother at Mariannes door and informed him "maybe she's asleep"

"She's a light sleeper" Elijah knew everything there was to know about Marianne, he knew that when she lied her mouth twitches ever so slightly, she never liked anyone to see her cry, her worst fears are storms, losing the people she loved and death. "She would have awoken by now"

Elijah had a million possibilities running through his mind, all not including the fact that she might have just ran away. His main priority was to check that Tristan wasn't the author behind her silence.

"I'm just going to enter" Elijah said to his sister, taking the doorknob and turning it, causing the door to open.

Elijah looked from corner to corner of the room. The empty bed, the mess of bags on the floor, the open drawers, the candles that have almost burnt out, the open window.

"Where is she?" Elijah asked as he walked around the room to look for any signs. Maybe she needed some air? Elijah looked in the bed, under the bed.

"Elijah?" Rebekah tried to get his attention, lifting a needle from the table of herbs and other magical ingredients. She put it down when Elijah walked over and then lifted something else up "isn't this the spell she used to block our fathers location spell?"

Elijah pushed Rebekah out of the way to get a closer look. "She said it takes a few days for the spell to get into your bloodstream" Elijah thought back to when they had first met.

"Maybe that's what the needle is for" Rebekah interrupted "one prick and then straight into the bloodstream"

"But why would she need to block a location spell?" Elijah asked, turning the pots and jars to see which is which. They were almost empty, she must've used a large amount.

"Maybe these would explain why?" Rebekah took the personalised envelopes from the top of the drawer, shuffling through them to find hers and Elijah's. "There's one for all of us"

"It's her handwriting" he said, sticking his thumb underneath the envelope flap and tearing it off, picking the letter from it and unfolding it.

Elijah,

I want to just take a few lines her just to thank you for making my life different, to thank you for making me into someone I always had dreamed of being. Thank you for making me feel loved.

I am writing this letter as my final goodbye, as I am only going to serve as a magnet to any trouble Tristan brings. If I had just given myself up then everything would have just stayed normal for you all. Hayley would have still been alive.

You have given me everything I had always wanted, someone to love me for who I am, a witch, and not judge me for any of my past mistakes. You have given me an adventure of a lifetime, shown me things a girl my age never gets an opportunity to see.

But as everything does, it must come to and end. I wasn't meant to be in this time, you have all moved on whilst I am stuck in my own ways. I am not meant to be here, I have caused too much trouble.

Attached to this letter is one of my spells, with instructions on how to use it. Allow Freya access to it and you will get Hayley back. The tea I gave you all persevered your spirits and if anything were to happen, if you were to die, you would be put in a small pocket of time; where we could easily get you back.

So you can all revert to normal; get Hayley back, tell her how you feel. Maybe your mothers ring wasn't meant to be on my finger, maybe it was a lucky escape. Give her the ring, Elijah, live your life as if I weren't in it. Forget about me and be happy. For as long as I am away, I will lead Tristan and the strix out of town too.

Your family will be safe and I will be safe as long as I keep running. So please take this goodbye and please don't come looking for me because I've blocked any locator spells.

I love you, Elijah.

Goodbye

"She's gone" Elijah put down the letter and took a seat. "She's really gone"

Rebekah peered out from her letter with tears in her eyes "oh my gosh, Elijah"

He took a deep breath in "she's leading Tristan away from New Orleans to keep us safe"

"But what about her? She's only mortal, there is only so long she could run before getting caught" Rebekah said "he'll catch her, he has vampires everywhere"

Elijah bunched up his fist in stress "get Freya. Now!" He said with urgency, taking off from the room and back downstairs.

"Brother" Freya had heard the commotion and came running down at the mention of her name "what is it?"

Elijah pushed down some of Mariannes items on the table in front of her "I need you to do a locating spell, fast"
