Marianne was up in her room when she heard the family leave for the ball. She didn't want to go down and watch them all ready themselves, because it was her that should be risking her life. She shouldn't be at home.

When Marianne was certain that they had all gone, she peered her head from outside her door and retreated back into her room.

She took out a piece of paper and scribbled a small message on. Marianne had the idea when she was alone in bed last night. She thought it was the most perfect idea, nothing can go wrong with it. Marianne could end this madness tonight.

She folded the note up and tucked it under a book so it didn't look out of place if somebody were to look around.

Marianne stepped from her room, her back against the wall to keep out of any other vampires sight. She stepped slowly and quietly towards Rebekah's room and quickly slipped in.

She opened Rebekah's wardrobe and rummaged through to find anything appropriate to wear. Obviously, the life Rebekah lives now would mean she would have so many ball gowns and masquerade masks.

Marianne's hands pulled out a ice baby blue dress that had an layer of mesh above it, embroidered with a silvery thread. Swirls covered the mesh overlay. It reminded her of something she'd dream of wearing when she was a child.

But then Marianne thought she couldn't go alone. She took another dress from Rebekah's wardrobe and one of the many masks from her drawer.

Marianne stormed into Hayley's room, she sat on her bed scrolling through her phone. She threw the red dress and the mask on the bed.

"What?" Hayley sat up and lifted the mask.

"I don't particularly know you" Marianne said "but I know Elijah's 'type' and that is stubborn and won't step down"

Hayley put down the mask and picked up the top of the dress. A confused look on her face as she looked.

"Get dressed" Marianne demanded "we're going to that ball"

Hayley stood up, lifting the full length dress off the bed. "I don't know if I can go-" she tried to make the excuse.

"Hayley, I can see a little bit of myself inside of you" Marianne explained "you have that small spark" maybe it's why he likes you so much "and I am not going to stand by whilst they're having all of the fun"

Hayley nodded. "Okay" she agreed "I'll meet you downstairs in 20 minutes?"

"Elijah has vampires plastered at every corner down there; come to my room and we'll climb down" Marianne had thought of literally everything. There was ivy that grew by her balcony, it would be hard to climb down in heels and a dress, but she could always throw her shoes down first and then try.

Or Hayley could use her hybrid powers to jump down and then catch her.

Marianne lifted her things and then walked out and back into her room; taking off her current dress and replacing it with the beautifully made dress that must have been quite old. She really hoped Rebekah didn't mind.

She slid her metallic baby blue gloves on that reached up to her elbows after she had brushed through her hair. And then he tied the encrusted light made over her eyes. Marianne could almost see her old self in the mirror.

Her gloved fingers slowly lifted the folded note up from under the book and slid it into her bra. When she's inside, she'll transfer it into her glove and then pass it along to whom that needed it.

Hayley's footsteps almost made her jump as her hand quickly retracted from her chest and Marianne pretended she was doing a final brush through of her hair.

Marianne couldn't really look at the slim figure in red. She couldn't help but feel the slightest of jealousies towards her; she was almost green. She kept asking herself why Marianne couldn't be Hayley? Why couldn't Elijah be attracted to her as much as he is to Hayley? She settled on thinking that she was just old news. Hayley is new and exciting and different, compared to Marianne, the old witch.

"Ready" Hayley wiggled her eyebrows, obviously Hayley thought the same of Marianne. But none of them would show it. They both blatantly hated each other.

"Alright" Marianne shrugged, her cheeks inflamed out of fear of getting caught "I was thinking if you jump down and then if I fall, you're always there to catch me"

"Okay" Hayley agreed, stepping onto the balcony's ledge and jumping off with ease. A height that if Marianne fell down, she'd break every bone in her body.

Marianne took her shoes off and flung them down to Hayley, who caught them perfectly. Would it be so bad if the heel hit her in the eye? Marianne thought, but she cursed herself for letting her feelings get in the way.

She then climbed out on the balcony and then attached herself to the ivy beside it, finding sturdy steps on her way down.

Hayley stood there, holding her shoes out for when she finally got down.

"Let's go"
