"Where is everybody Harper?" Avary asks me."Yeah Harper tell 'em where everybody is." Bianca says which could pass as evil or rude, but its almost like she has a pass. like, a pass of grief or something. Cause, when you lose someone that means a lot to you the worst thing to do is end on a bad subject. Because since the 'incident' they hadn't been on good terms with each other and the worst part of all they still loved each other.
"Nobody else wanted to come. It was a normal place. They are dauntless and they love that place. I just don't get it. Noah, amaryllis, and Jackson." I shake my head.
"Why didn't he come with you? Aren't you supposed to be number one priority?" Avary asks.
"I'd really rather not talk about that." I snap rudely but Avary doesn't really care.
"What about Logan?" Falcon asks.
"I'm going to go get something g from the cafeteria. It's been a while since I've had dauntless cake." Bianca says regarding the subject.
"Get me some while your at it." I say and Bianca nods leaving.
"When Logan got there at first Bianca was still freaked out and all so she beat him up but that's not the point. The point is he had a heart condition they couldn't have known about. One day he was in the hospital the next he was dead." I say and Avary looks horrified.
"We all grew up with him." Falcon says disbelievingly. "Then he and Bianca happens and we were all even closer to Bianca but they both leave and as everyone else then we were the only ones left."
"I know." I whisper. "She isn't taking it well."
"I wouldn't either." Avary shakes her head. "I'm glad you all are back though." She smiles.
"Me too." I smile.
"I don't know how you stayed that long if you hated it that much." Avary shakes her head.
"I only stayed for less than three months." I say confused then stop. (That's not right but it needs to be for the initiates to be here soon.)
"You were gone for almost a year Harper." Avary says all of a sudden completely serious.
"Oh right. That." I say awkwardly running my already sweating palms down the length of my pants.
"That what?" Falcon asks leaning forward on the couch.
"The accident." I whisper looking down. I roll up my pants leg up and both their eyes widen.
"Harper." Avary whispers.
"No one else really got hurt except." I stop.
"Except?" Falcon pushes which causes him to earn a nice elbow in the side from Avary.
"Amaryllis." I mutter.
"Is she okay? What happened?" Avary starts to freak.
"Her face its- burnt. Really badly." I say without much detail.
"Oh." Avary says as Bianca comes back through the door with the plate of cake she promised me and herself. "You both should probably sleep it's late." She says checking the clock. "Your rooms are just as you left them."
And I know pity laces her voice but I don't really need it.
"Thanks." I say and hug Avary which might be the only thing I need.
"No problem Harper." She says smiling. "We've missed you guys."
Amaryllis POV OHHHHH
"Think he's just sulking still?" I ask outside of the apartments.
"I don't know but he is just— he isn't leaving. It's not healthy. He needs to get out." Jackson says.
"You can sleep in one of the girls old rooms if you don't want to encounter that." I motion to the door which hides Noah.
"I might just do that." Jackson grimaces. "Come on let's go ahead and go." He says standing and helping me up with one hand.
"Okay." I shrug and send one last glance to the door before following him back into the apartment. "I'm going to shower." I say.
•••
I come out of the shower and see only a little bit of smoke coming from under the door of Harper's room. I raise an eyebrow and slowly step toward her door while grabbing the handle lightly.
"Ow!" I squeak from the burning sensation I got from the door but it still is open but only barely. I kick the door open and flames smother me. Then I remember how earlier Jackson had told me he would take Harper's room since it was closer to mine which I found really sweet at the time. But now seeing his lifeless body amongst the flames shrill screams pry themselves from my mouth.
"Jackson!" I scream but the heat and smoke kept me from going any farther. I feel somebody grab be from behind and I scream but open my eyes I didn't know were're closed.
Jackson is over me with his hands tightly around my wrists to keep me from thrashing.
"Shhh." Jackson whispers sitting back slowly. "It was just a dream."
"It is always just a dream, Jackson." I sigh and smooth back my hair which is in a messy bun.
"I know but we can get through this." He says encouragingly but he's wrong.
"No. I. I can't get through this. I can't handle this. You can't help me in this." I say sitting up.
"don't be like that." Jackson says softly.
"Why can't I be like that. I can't do it anymore! I don't want to do it anymore. I don't want to not know if your dead in my dreams I just don't want this!" I end up screaming knowing I probably woke up have the apartment.
"Shhh. Calm down Amaryllis. You didn't do anything to deserve this it just happened. You just have to learn to live with it."
"What if I just don't want to live with it!" I scream not meaning to and I barely realize I'm crying
"Stop." Jackson shakes his head pulling me closer to him. "Stop don't talk like that you can't do that." I feel like he's crying too but I can't see his face. "You don't even know how much this hurts me Amaryllis."
"I promise you, it hurts me way more." I cry.
