"I don't want to try again." I argue quietly.
"You'll never get better if you don't." My therapist tells me.
"She doesn't want to try again! Now leave her alone!" Noah yells but I don't even flinch. The therapist looks at Noah startled for a moment and nods, leaving. Noah sits on the side of my bed that I lie in. I just lay there empty in my own world. "You okay?" He asked me interlacing our fingers.
"No." I reply squeezing his hand slightly.
"I'm sorry." He runs his fingers over my rough knuckles.
"There's no point anymore. Neither me or you can help me by being sorry." I say distantly.
"I know." Noah replies. "Let's go eat okay? Let's go." He starts helping me sit up but I'm not putting much effort into it. I take both his hands and sit in the wheel chair he prepped for me.
"Thanks." I grunt quietly after I'm in the chair.
"Your welcome Harper." He says pushing me through the door. When we get to the cafeteria everybody sits around a round table.
"Hey Harper." Bianca says smiling but it doesn't reach her eyes. She was one of the first to notice my quite sudden change of mood.
"Hi." I mutter picking at the food Noah had brought me. "You know I'm not really hungry." I push myself back from the table.
"You need to eat." Noah grabs my arm gently so I can't roll back any farther. I sigh defeated not even trying anymore and sit my elbows on the table.
Amaryllis sits beside Jackson in a hostile position.
"So how's your nerves cooperating?" I ask Amaryllis.
"It's doing better. I can actually smile slightly." She replied but didn't smile.
"Good." I nod.
Noah's POV (this won't be often)
She isn't acting like herself. I try and try but she doesn't let me help. She sits there sticking her fork through a grape but not bringing it to her mouth. I had to make her eat but I couldn't be hard on her in fear she would just break.
"Let's go back." I put a hand on her arm.
"Okay." She nods.
Bianca raises an eyebrow and looks up at me when I stand. "Bring her tray up please." I lean down and whisper in Bianca's ear. She nods and waits for me to push Harper out of the cafeteria and then she follows behind us but out of view. I get on the elevator but Bianca waits for the next one. I don't say anything on the way up and into her room. Bianca comes in seconds later with her tray of food and sets it down. "Thank you." I say and she leaves with a final nod.
"Why are you doing this?" Harper asked and it felt like a knife in my heart when it sounded so distant and contained no emotion.
"I want you back." I reply sitting in front of her on her bed that she sits up in.
"But I'm right here." she says looking in my direction but not actually looking me in the eye.
"You're so distant." I say gently bringing my hand up to her face. Harper puts her hand on mine and then took it off, still holding it in hers, and brought it down to her side. Harper doesn't say anything but just looks down. "I need you Harper. Don't leave me." I say quietly. She still doesn't say anything or do anything and that worries me. Until I see tears sliding down her face and her body starts to shake with sobs. I start to immediately panic but end up wrapping one arm around her and letting her cry into my shoulder.
"I can't do this." She whispers. I place both my hands gingerly on her face and study the tired look on her face with old mascara staining her tear covered cheeks. Black circles have formed under her eyes but I've known she wasn't sleeping.
"Yeah you can." I argue with her and run one of my thumbs under her eyes catching tears as I do so. She looks at me with lost and scared eyes. "It's okay." I say again.
"Is it?" She asks me. I pull her head forward and plant my lips on her forehead.
"Yes. Yes it is." I whisper.
"Promise?" She asks me in a low voice.
"Promise." I promise her.
Harper's POV
Bianca sits behind me on the bed and runs a brush through my tangled blond hair.
"Thanks" I tell her again.
"Don't mention it." Bianca replies as she finished my hair. "What're you planning on doing today?"
"I'm going again." I say quietly. I didn't want to go back but I had to have function of my leg.
"Really!" Bianca says excitedly. "I mean, really?"
"Yeah. Don't make a big deal of it." I mutter.
"Okay." Bianca nods. She reaches around me and grabs a spray bottle of water but I notice ink on her wrist and I grab it.
"What is that?" I accuse and pull it in front of my face.
"It's nothing." Bianca says sternly and tries to pull her wrist away from me but I hold it in place and read the small fancy writing.
Nick Gravely
November 23And beside of it had a small footprint. Tears clouded my vision and I blinked it away.
"Is it really his?" I ask; letting her take her wrist back.
"Yeah. The nurse helped me on it." Bianca smiles slightly running her fingers over the tattoo.
"Have you showed Logan?" I ask knowing the answer.
"No. I haven't talked to him still. This is my getaway." Bianca shrugs staring at her fist.
"You should've."
"I don't know. I still feel like my feelings have never gone away from him but instead just wrapped into fear. I don't want him to touch me or get near me or even look at me. I just don't want to get hurt again." Bianca says.
"He's sorry." I blurt. "He said he never wanted to hurt you."
"I know he didn't Harper." Bianca smiles weakly. "You don't always plan to hit somebody when your aiming at a target but when they jump in front of it sometimes you can't stop fast enough."
