"Get up! Get up!" Me and Falcon scream as I bang an old lot against an old metal spoon that makes a loud echoing noise in the room.
"Oh my god." Haden groans.
"What? Is it too early for you get up?" I ask.
"No Two." Haden says while standing groggily. I don't let the initiates call me by name because I fear they'd treat me different knowing my genes and heritage.
"That's what I thought. Get up you all!" I scream.
"What are we doing?" One of the initiates that I can't remember their name says.
"On a field trip." Falcon replies.
"Be at the trains in five minutes." Falcon and I retreat out of the dorms. "I'll meet you at the trains." I tell Jackson and run off to the trains while I wait for the initiates.
•••
"I get Violet." I claim.
"Fine Jacob." Falcon scoffs. Jacob and his brother were both lean and light which is the type of person I want on my team.
"Josh." I say folding my arms.
"Mathew."
"Hey!" I accuse. "That's my initiate."
"Mine now." Falcon retorts and I glare.
"Joe."
"Piper."
"Keenan."
"Haden." Falcon says slowly. Then we continue to fight over who to take and end up with the same amount.
"This year you will do everything by yourself while we sit and watch." I tell the initiates. "And transfers." I start. "Don't get cocky. The dauntless born know this place like the back of their hand. Trust them." Then they scatter.
"Come on Falcon I wanna go somewhere." I tell him and then we sneak to not get hit by the initiates guns.
"Where are we going?" Falcon asks when we get to the bottom of the Ferris wheel.
"That's Bianca's baby's grave and then that's the Ferris wheel we are going to climb. " I say but unlike normal people, Falcon doesn't argue. We are dauntless that's what we do.
"You alright?" Falcon asks about halfway up.
"Yeah." I nod slightly and pull up farther until we are at the top and I settle on a metal bar.
"Why did we come up here, again?"
"Because I trust you." I said and he sits beside of me.
"What's wrong?" He asks.
"Everything." I say straining a laugh. "But that's not why we are up here. It's cause my mom did this as an initiate. With my dad. and then last year I did it with him too once." I sigh.
"Oh." Falcon says.
"I wonder if she wanted me." I whisper.
"Of course she did." Falcon says.
"How would you know that. They were in the middle of a war why would you want kids then?"
"Maybe you weren't planned but that doesn't mean she didn't want you." Falcon tries and reasons.
"Dad said she really did love me." I say quietly.
"Then she probably did."
"Everybody says I look just like her and every time I look at people who knew her, they look sad. Like it is hard to look at me."
"It's okay." Falcon whispers. "Even if it isn't. Let's just say it is."
"Okay. Wait did they find the flag already?" I ask looking to where people flashed lights like crazy.
"It looks like they are about to." Falcon says. "Let's get down now."
"Okay." I say and start down the ladder that leads all the way to the bottom. "Let's go." Then we both take off to where we saw the lights flashing. We get to a battle scene like room in one of the abandoned buildings and everyone is shooting in each other with their fake guns. I look and see the flag hasn't yet been touched but isn't far from being discovered. I can spot Violet crawling along the tubes on the ceiling trying to reach the old rag.
She holds her index finger to her mouth and I nod.
"I've got it!" She exclaims and falls like a cat down to the floor.
"Congrats." I tell her and most of the the other team look butt hurt. "Get back to the dorms. Training is same time as usual.
