Jane's P.O.V
It's funny how having my second child feels like the first time. Ian was always a quiet child. He never really made a big fuzz, but Mira proves to be different. Even as a baby, she is troublesome. She cries whenever I am trying to do something important, and laugh when she gets the attention she wants. She's a really funny child.
It takes a lot for me to rock her to sleep. She laughs the most when her brother and her dad makes funny faces. Then she cries when they stop. I only get to nap when Liam is home with me, and he really helps at night when she wakes up. Our nanny is on a well deserved vacation.
Ian loves being a big brother. He runs through the door when he comes back from school just to watch Mira. He feels so proud when he makes Mira smile. I already know he's gonna be a great brother.
Liam is still excited to be a father, since this is his first time experiencing the whole baby thing. He didn't get the chance with Ian, so he's giving it all he got. He wakes up in the middle of the night to take care of her. He carries her all around whenever he's not working. He makes sure he give her a lot of attention. I guess that's why she cries when she doesn't get the attention from either of us.
She's already dad's little girl.
At first, I thought Ian would not be happy with a new sibling, because they both have to share our attention, but surprisingly he's quite understanding. Liam and I make sure we give Ian the attention needed, and show him we love him equally. Liam already told me he doesn't want to make the same mistake his parents made with him and his brother.
I'm still on my maternity leave, but I'm getting tired of staying at home. Sometimes I work on my laptop when Mira is taking a nap. I also video call during conference meetings. Even though Liam wants me to just pay attention to Mira, I still can't help myself. I'm used to working.
I was about to work on a project for one of the organizations our company partnered with when I heard Mira crying on the baby monitor.
I rolled my eyes knowing she ate not too long ago, and I just checked her diaper. I was praying she would take a nap, apparently she doesn't want to. I stood up from my comfortable chair and walked back to her room. I smiled at her making her smile.
I knew all she wanted was my attention. I picked her up gently, and I put her on my shoulder. I decided to just take her to the living room with me. I took the baby swing with me, so she can nap beside me while I work. I can also watch her closely.
I put her in her swing, monitoring her. She gradually drifted to sleep putting a big smile on my face. I quietly reduce the volume on my laptop, so I don't make any noise.
Twenty minutes into the project I heard the door open. I checked my time, I already knew who it was. I could hear his steps, he was running in as usual. I stood up immediately to stop him so he doesn't wake Mira up.
Ian rushed in while shouting Mira. I tried to hush him, but it was way too late. Mira woke up crying out loudly. At that moment I wanted to cry, because I know how much it took for her to have that twenty minutes nap. I also know with Ian here she won't go back to sleep anytime soon.
Ian moved closer to Mira, smiling. I knew his goal was to wake her up. It's like he doesn't even care how much trouble they both make.
"Ian... I always tell you to come in quietly. You woke her up." I said picking Mira up. "I'm sorry mom." Ian said without remorse while he shrug. I pat Mira and she stopped crying. She opened her eyes to look at me. I smiled at her then she looked around to see Ian looking at her. Mira smiled widely. Looks like she found her best friend.
"Mom, can I carry her now?" Ian asked with a smile. I sighed.
"Okay fine let me put her down over at the play area, then you can play with her. Make sure you watch her carefully while I work for a bit, okay?" I said walking towards their play area.
"Okay," Ian said following me. After putting Mira down with Ian, I walked back to the living room to get my laptop and the paperwork I was using. I sat on the desk close to their play area, so I can watch them.
I already know I only have two hours to do the project before Liam gets home. As soon as Liam gets home I get busier. It's like having three kids that equally wants attention. I have to take care of them all.
Liam comes home early on days like this since it's boys' night. He comes home three hours early before hanging out with his friends.
Sometimes I like boys night because the kids go to sleep early. That give me a 'me' time, but I sleep a bit late when Liam stays at home because all they do is play. The time I enjoy most is girls' night and date night.
We make sure we schedule our time very well so we don't go crazy. We always have a day just to ourselves every week while the kids go to grandma's house or stay with the nanny. Liam and I just use the day to do whatever we want and have fun.
30 minutes into my work and I heard the door followed by a voice. "I'm home!" Liam said sounding so excited.
Here we go again, he's even super early today.
I closed my laptop and let out a deep breath ready to face the rest of the day.
