You Weren't There

I can't recall when she left, I just know she did. It had been days, maybe weeks, months, years. Everything just blended together without Octavia. There was no meaning to anything without her. Bellamy could see the hurt expression in my eyes, everyone could. "I miss her too, yanno." He stood in the entryway to my tent and I looked up at him, "Why'd she leave? She promised she wouldn't." I sighed, resting my head in my hands and he sat next to me, rubbing my back, "I wish I could answer that question (Y/N), I really do." I turned to face him and he leaned in slowly, a smirk evident on his face. It was only then I smelled the alcohol on his breath and shoved him away, "Making a move on your sister's girlfriend? That's a new low even for you, Bellamy Blake." He groaned and laid back before chuckling to himself. I grabbed my boots and put them on before grabbing my jacket and walking out, leaving Bellamy snoring in my bed. I didn't stop and talk to Raven or Clarke or Jasper like I usually did when upset, I just headed straight for the woods. Maybe the fresh air would help me feel human again. She wanted to be a part of Trikru, I understood that. I just wish she didn't leave me behind. I needed her. I have ever since I first met her at the masquerade. Merely days later I got locked up on my own offenses and thrown into a room with her. I was pulled out of my thoughts by someone putting their hand over my mouth, muffling my screams. I barely turned quick enough to see who was holding me before I was knocked unconscious. Mountain Men. I knew war was brewing, but what did they want us for? When I woke up in a cage, I knew I would live to regret asking that question. "(Y/N)?" I heard a whisper, but it sounded a million miles away. "(Y/N)!" Louder this time, it caused me to look up before wincing at the pain in my head. "M-monty..?" His eyes were fearful, but he looked comforted to see a familiar face. "How did they get you? Did they get Octavia too?" I shook my head before looking down at my lap and letting the tears fall. "Octavia left to be a grounder.. She didn't even tell me, Monty.." I sighed, banging my head against the cage wall. "She'll come back for you. She always does." He smiled at me reassuringly, "Where are we?" Another question I regret asking. A doctor walked in followed by two other men, "Ah, lovely. You're awake!"

"Don't touch her." Monty growled. She raised an eyebrow at him seemingly surprised at his outburst and I was too. I had known Monty for a long time though, so he had taken a sort of older brother role in my life just like Jasper had. She opened the cage next to me, "Harper?" I whispered and she looked up at me, groggy and covered in blood. "What are you going to do to her?" I got an answer not in words, but in sound. Harper screamed as the drill pierced her hip and I started banging against my cage as I screamed and cried. This continued for what seemed like an eternity. Two men dragged me out of my cage and I struggled against them. I tried to bite and kick them to get them to let go, but instead I was knocked out again. I awoke to the same sound that I had a feeling would forever haunt me; the sound of a drill whirring. I tried to move, but I looked down to see straps at my arms and legs. "(Y/N)! No!" I heard screams and looked around the room. Raven was there among Kane, Abby, and others from the Ark. I saw the pain on her face, the same pain I saw when Finn died. She had tears streaming down her face. "This might sting a bit." The cool, but sarcastic voice of the doctor made me shiver, but then it hit me. They were taking me next. "Just look at me! I'm right here!" Raven cried, trying so hard to comfort me, "Just let her go!" She growled at the Mountain Men in the room and they all ignored her. The pain was unbearable, worse than anything I had ever experienced. The agony seemed to go on forever, the searing pain of the drill in my hip and my screams didn't even sound like they were escaping my throat. I felt my vision fade to black, but I knew they weren't stopping. I heard the door burst open before everything faded out. When I woke up, bright lights flooded my vision. I could hear someone shuffling about the room, "Am I.. Am I dead.." I mumbled before hearing someone chuckle. "No, (Y/N), you aren't dead. Clarke would never have forgiven me if I let that happen." Abby's face came into my field of vision and I felt relief wash over me, "You almost didn't make it. They were taking too much blood from you. If she had been a few minutes later.." She trailed off, shaking her head, "I do have bad news though.." She pushed the hair out of my face like she used to when I was little and I closed my eyes at the familiar contact. She turned her head for a minute, a motherly smile appearing on her face, "I'll let them tell you. It might be easier to hear from someone who knows what it's like." I looked towards the front of the tent and saw Clarke and Raven walk closer. Raven held her breath at the sight of me before running her hand along my arm. "I thought... I thought I lost you.." I gripped her hand in mine and wrapped my other arm around her as she buried her face in my chest and cried. Clarke just stared at me as if she was seeing a ghost. "You two aren't going to get rid of me that easy. I'm still in working condition." Clarke's eyes widened as she looked over at her mom. Abby just looked down at something laying on the table, "About that, (Y/N).." Raven glanced down at her own brace and I felt my stomach drop, "They paralyzed your leg with that drill.. Wick made you a brace like the one he made for Raven.." Clarke stroked my hair, sitting on the edge of the bed that I was laying on and I felt tears well up in my eyes. "It's gonna suck, but we can always lean on each other." Raven joked and I laughed, smiling slightly. "Here, lemme help." Raven picked up the brace and put it on my leg. It was almost identical to hers, just on the opposite leg, "Between the two of us we have a set of working legs." I chuckled and Raven smiled at me, "There's my (Y/N)."

"Want us to get you back to your tent?" I nodded and they helped me up, "Thank you, Abby." She shook her head and her eyes teared up, "You're like another daughter to me. I saw you there.. I watched them hurt you. I had to save you." She pulled me into a tight hug and I felt her shake before she pulled away. "Get her back to her tent and then come back here, Clarke. I still wanna make sure you're all patched up." Clarke just rolled her eyes and walked me out with Raven, "What's the last thing you remember?" Raven asked, her grip tight around my waist as Clarke held my hand. "The drill.." I winced at the memory, but pushed my brain harder to remember, "And.. the door slamming open.. But then, nothing."

"So you don't know who saved you?" I shook my head and they exchanged a look before Raven shook her head, "What is it? Who was it?" I got my answer when they opened the door to my room and Octavia was sat on my bed. Raven and Clarke hugged me and quickly made their exits. I froze as she looked into my eyes. She had warpaint on her face and her armor on. "You're always just in time, aren't you?" I looked down at my feet and my heart dropped seeing my brace. "How did they get you? I told Bellamy to keep you safe." She growled. I wasn't sure who she was mad at; Herself, Bellamy, the Mountain Men, or hell maybe it was all three. "He did some job of that trying to make moves on me. And when did you tell him that. Before or after you decided to leave me behind?" I snapped at her and she stood and tried to pull me closer but I pushed her away. "You left me, Octavia. Sure, you swooped in and saved me, which I don't even know how you did. But you weren't there when they took me. You weren't there when I had to watch my best friends get tortured, when I got tortured." I didn't even know I was crying until she reached up to wipe the tears away, causing me to flinch. "Bellamy came and told me you were gone. I talked to Heda, she said she had not seen you. I only knew we were going to fight the Mountain Men soon. That's when it all came together. I went to the battle, and even when they sounded the retreat I wouldn't leave. I went in with Clarke to look for you. I saw you there on that table and I couldn't," She paused and turned her head so I wouldn't see her cry, "I couldn't watch the girl I loved go through that. I charged the room even though Bellamy told me not to. I slit their throats, every last one of them. I carried you back here and stayed at your bedside until Abby told me you were stable. I thought I lost you.." She turned and I looked to see everything strewn about, "You and your tantrums." She smiled sadly at me and nodded slowly, "You had to have known that you might lose me when you just left me in the middle of the night.." She looked down, not making eye contact with me, "I did. That's why I tried to make that last night memorable. I wanted you to know i loved you, even if that was the last time you ever saw me." Her voice was weak and scared and hesitant. She was nervous, just like she had been that night before she left. "I.. I needed you.. And you weren't there.." The tears started coming again as she pulled me close. I buried my face in the crook of her neck and hit her chest weakly, "You weren't there!" I felt her tears against my face and she held me tighter, "I know.. And I'm so sorry.. But I'm here now.. If you want me.." She whispered, pulling away to search my face for any sign of rejection. Octavia had changed since we landed on the ground, but not in a bad way. She was still my Octavia, just stronger both inside and out. "I do.." I whispered, pulling her down to me. I was shaking as her lips touched mine, same as I was when we kissed the first time. She was shaking too and crying and holding on to me as if the moment she let go I would turn and run. "You mean that?" Her voice cracked and she held back from smiling, still thinking it was a cruel joke I was playing. "I know I messed up, but I do love you. I can't lose you.. Not again.." I shook my head and smiled up at her before watching that blinding smile of hers appear, "I want you, Octavia Blake. I have since that masquerade. Nothing will change that."

"I'll never leave again. And I won't ever let anyone hurt you again." She held me closer to her body, kissing the top of my head. For the first time since she left, everything made sense.
