"Come on, (Y/N)! I know you can do better than that." Octavia growled at me, shoving me back. Both of our weapons had been abandoned long ago with well timed punches. I dodged a swing and knocked her flat on her ass which caused her to smile up at me, "Better. I'm proud." I held out a hand and pulled her up, "Thanks, O. I'll learn soon enough." My best friend nodded and wrapped an arm around my waist to steady herself as we walked back to camp. Octavia had been training me in combat skills for a while. I had gotten to the point where I could easily overtake her, but held back in order to not hurt her. "Clarke and I are going to grounder village tomorrow. I want you to come. You can join in on the sparring the grounders usually do. Who knows, you might get recruited to battle the Commander." She grinned at me. "Well, we should probably get your leg patched up. Sorry for the low cut." She shook her head as I helped her limp into the drop ship, "It's not that bad." Clarke said as she bandaged Octavia's leg up. "You two should probably get some rest though, we have a long walk in the morning." Boy, was she right. It seemed like the walk to the village took years. "Where'd (Y/N) go?" Clarke turned and Octavia smiled. I crept up behind Clarke slowly before picking her up, "I caught the skai prisa!" I laughed and Clarke giggled as she yelled about putting her down. "Fine." I pouted, finally releasing her as she smiled, shoving my shoulder back. "Asshole."
"I thought it was funny." I stuck my tongue out at her and we walked for a while before I heard a stick snap somewhere in the forest. Octavia and I both drew our swords and stopped, listening for any other signs of movement. "Scouts." Octavia whispered and I nodded, continuing to walk with Clarke. "Making sure we're not conspiring against the commander most likely." I whispered back. She nodded in agreement and we walked through the opening gates of grounder camp. I looked around at all the warriors walking in their armor before locking eyes with Lexa. She gave me a nod and Clarke made her way towards Lexa, pulling me and Octavia behind her. "But Claaarrrkkkeeee we wanna go fight." Octavia whined, causing Clarke to chuckle. "No need to act like a five year old."
"They wish to fight my warriors?" Lexa raised an eyebrow, an amused smirk on her face. Clarke nodded, "Yeah, all they do is train. They want the practice."
"The arena is over there, go ahead." She pointed over to where a large guard stood and Octavia and I tried to push past him, "Sky girls, huh? Have fun." He laughed, causing me to growl and shove him as Octavia rolled her eyes. We walked in and I watched as Octavia went a few rounds in battle, eventually becoming worn out and stopping. "Good luck out there. They're great warriors." I nodded and drew my sword as I entered the area, a proud smirk on my face. I went through round after round, defeating opponents one by one. Not to brag, but I barely had more than a few scratches on me. I turned around and saw Lexa staring at me, her eyes soft and a smile on her face. Could the strong commander be crushing on me. I walked closer to her, hearing the end of a conversation between Clarke and Lexa, "I told you, she's one of our best."
"And she defeated many of my best. There's nothing more attractive than a strong warrior." Lexa responded. "I was the only one out there, so thank you for the compliment, Commander. Care to join me?" I smirked, my usual cockiness taking over. She smiled slightly and nodded, walking with me towards the center of the arena. We started our battle and I saw determination in her eyes as she swung at me, quickly pushing me to the ground. I stared up at her and pouted before giving her my best puppy dog eyes. I saw her eyes grow soft and a bit of adoration appear in her expression. I quickly flipped her onto her back and sat on her stomach, pinning her wrists above her head and holding my sword against her neck. "Boom, I win." I smirked proudly and kissed her cheek before walking off. Octavia met me at the exit and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, "You just beat the commander. I'm so proud!" She grinned, kissing the side of my head. I turned to glance at Lexa, but saw her glancing at Octavia's back instead. I shrugged it off and wrapped my arm around Octavia's waist, "Thanks, O. I learned from one of the best." After that Clarke told us we would be staying there for a few days. Octavia and I agreed, happy that we would be able to practice our fighting more. "You. The commander wishes to see you." I looked up to see Indra and Octavia stood up protectively, "Why her?" Indra merely shrugged and I put a hand on Octavia's shoulder, "I got this, O. I'll be back." I followed Indra to Lexa's tent and walking inside. "You wanted to see me, your highness." She raised an eyebrow at me from where she sat on her throne. Honestly, I am catching some feelings for her. "You and the younger Blake girl. Are you two romantically involved."
"Oh yeah, totally!" I laughed before seeing the seriousness and almost hurt look in her eyes, "I was being sarcastic. Octavia only has eyes for Raven. I have my eyes on somebody else." I mumbled the last part and she nodded, "I wish for you to fight with me in the battle. We leave in twenty minutes. Come if you wish." She stood and walked out of the tent as I followed. "So?" Octavia tilted her head to the side, "She asked if we were together and then invited me to join her in battle." I shrugged as Clarke walked up to us, "So she took my advice?" Clarke grinned, "Advice?"
"Nothing. Better hurry and get out there." I nodded, jogging off to where the troops were assembling. I walked over and stood next to Lexa, "I'm glad you came.." She smile as we marched, "I like it when you smile. You should do that more often." I whispered and smiled as I saw her blush. "Ambush!" Someone in the back of the crowd screamed as the arrows started flying towards us. We ran, trying to find spots in the trees to hide. A few arrows came flying towards Lexa and I felt the world go into slow-motion. I knew I had to protect her and in that moment I realized I was falling in love with her. I ran and tackled her to the ground, protecting her with my own body, and ignored the arrows grazing my back. We fought for days before returning to camp. I was greeted with a hug by Octavia who almost tackled me to the ground. I winced as her hands found the cuts on my back, "Gentle, O. I'm pretty cut up on my back."
"How?" I saw Lexa look at me as she walked by, "Protecting someone." Octavia followed my gaze and grinned, "Awe, (Y/N) protecting her girlfriend."
"Go float yourself. I didn't do anything you wouldn't do for Raven." I shoved her and she blushed at the mention of the girl's name. We talked for awhile around the fire that was burning before Octavia turned and went to her tent. I walked into mine before being tapped on the shoulder, "Come with me." Lexa whispered and I followed her silently. I hesitated as she walked into her tent before she turned and looked me in the eyes. I nodded my head and followed her into the tent. "What do you need, Heda?" I whispered, watching as her shoulders dropped casually. "This is a personal matter. You can call me Lexa, (Y/N)." She said simply and I smiled at the way she said my name. "Why did you protect me on the field today? You could have gotten yourself killed." She shook her head and led me to a chair. "May I see your wounds?" I nodded and pulled my shirt off, sitting with my back to her, "I went to battle for you because I would die for you." As she finished looking over my wounds she turned me around to face her, "Why do you want to protect me?" She whispered, vulnerability in her voice. "Because.. I.." I sighed and shook my head, "It doesn't matter. I just did, okay?" She nodded, "I could have died today without you. I could have died without telling you how I feel." She stared at me and I stood up in front of her, "How you feel?" She looked unsure, but leaned in and let me close the gap. I kissed her gently as her hands found my waist, "I could have died without telling you that I love you.." She whispered, pulling back with a smile on her face and tears in her eyes, "And I would have died to protect you on that battlefield because I love you, Lexa." I whispered back and kissed her again.
