The next day, Joker found himself in Arkham Asylum for the fourth time that month. He was forced into a small room with little outside contact, but it was almost like a second home at this point. This time, he felt empty, though. Most of the times he knew that he would easily be able to escape and go back to fighting Batman again, but that wouldn't be an option this time. Batman had deliberately tricked him into being arrested, which would mean that the two wouldn't be able to see each other and do what they had become accustomed to. This meant that Batman didn't care about fighting Joker anymore, and that he could live his life without him. He could be with his family more, something that was becoming more important to him. Joker entirely saw why Batman would do this, yet he still felt this twinge of betrayal. Two months ago, Batman had told the Joker that he would hate him forever, and Joker had believed it. Now, he was being tossed out of his enemy's life like he was expired milk. It went against everything that the two stood for, but then again, so was lying about them dating. Joker chuckled at the irony.

Joker twiddled with his fingers as he thought about what had happened the night before. Batman had gone out of his way to choose a nice place for them to eat, then he followed Joker to a mysterious night club, and then he had... almost kissed him. Joker tried to block out the memory of how giddy he had felt when the two pressed against each other. It was so stupid of him to actually believe that the two could make it as a couple. He had made up this story as a publicity stunt, and Batman was simply using that to his advantage. Still, did he have to make it so convincing? Why couldn't he just do what he normally would've done: knock him out the second he drove up to his door and have him wake up at the police station with a sticky note stuck to his head that said I've Been a Bad Boy. That's what Joker would've wanted! He would almost prefer that to that magnificent, er, overblown date. Oh, who was Joker kidding. That date was amazing and he knew it (up until being shot in the back at least.) All of these thoughts were going through Joker's head as a guard walked up to his cell.

"You've got a call," the woman informed him.

"Batman?" the Joker asked, his hopes rising.

The guard snickered. "You would want that, wouldn't you? It's actually Harleen Quinzel. She wants to talk to you about laundry or something," she informed the clown.

"Oh, thanks," Joker replied, taking the phone from the guard.

"Boo-Boo, come in," Harley said in her voice that she used on her walkie-talkie.

"Harley, this is a phone, you don't need to use that voice," Joker said.

"You usually love it when I make that voice," Harley said, her voice falling.

"I guess I'm not in the mood today. Anyway, why did you decide to call?" Joker asked.

"I miss you! There's no one to laugh at jokes with or pull pranks with without you here. Why haven't you broken out yet?" Harley asked in return.

"I've been in this cell for about 10 minutes, what are you talking about?"

                         "10 minutes? It's 3 in the afternoon!"

"Okay then, I'll make sure to break out before 7."

                          "Promise?"

                        "Promise."

"Good, so I take it that your date with B-man didn't go very well."

"Gee, what was your first clue?"

"Ivy and I were betting on how it would go. Guess that I owe her 20 bucks now."

"Nice talking to you, Harley," Joker ended the conversation. He handed the guard the phone, who hopefully hadn't overheard the part about him breaking out. Still, if she couldn't guess that he was going to break out by now, then she must've been hired for her strength. Joker would have to distract her in time for 7:00.

.....

Batman sat at his computer, his head in his hands. He knew that he had done the right thing last night, but something in the way that Joker had looked at him before he passed out made the dark knight feel very wrong in his actions. Still, Joker was the one who came up with this lie in the first place, and Batman was the one to always end the Joker's wrong-doing. If that was the case, why was he constantly thinking about the stars in the Joker's eyes, or his dance moves that he had shown off, or the moment where the Joker and him had almost kissed. It was probably because it had happened recently and the memories were still fresh in his mind. Yeah, that had to be the explanation.

The door behind him opened and Batman turned to see who it was. Oddly enough, it was Barbara. That didn't make any sense, though. Robin and Alfred were the only other people that he allowed in the Batcave. Alfred must have let her in. That was so like him.

"How's it going?" Barbara asked, a smile on her face.

"I'm good. Still trying to get over last night though. That was weird," Batman responded, a fake grin plastered on his face.

"I'm just glad that we finally locked him up. Me and a couple people at work were even thinking about giving him a stronger cell so he wouldn't escape so easily," Barbara suggested.

"Yeah, that'll mean even more time where I'll have no one to fight with," Batman said with feigned happiness.

"Exactly! You'll be able to hang out with your family a bit more than usual. Speaking of which, Robin came up with this great idea to watch Pearl Harbor! Not only is it a romantic movie, but it also has explosions, Ben Affleck, and enough bad moments to make fun of it," Barbara said excitedly.

That did sound great. One thought from what Barbara said did stick with him, the thought that Joker will escape from the Asylum sometime soon. Batman would have to be there when he escaped. He would need to calculate the exact time when he would escape, but Batman was the greatest detective ever for a reason. Bad Movie Night would have to wait.

Author's Note:

Sorry if this chapter was pretty anti-climactic, but I figured that if I continued it for a bit longer that it would seem like a drag. Stay tuned, I guess!
