Even though Batman had repeatedly told the nurses and doctors in the waiting room that his side was fine, the doctors insisted that he needed stitches for where he pulled the glass out. The next thing he knew, he was sitting on a hospital bed, still recovering from the stitches that had been put on his body. Even though he was having surgery, he kept his mask on. Bruce felt that at a time like this he needed to have as much strength as he could. Not for the stitches, but for his thoughts of what had happened to the Joker. Bruce wondered if he was okay, and if he wasn't, then what would he do without the clown?
Aside from Robin and Alfred, Joker was the most important person in Batman's life. Not only did the Joker's antics give something for Bruce to do half the time, but recently, he had realized that Joker meant a lot more to him than he had first thought. He loved the Joker, more than he had loved anyone before. Now he knew that Joker sincerely loved him back, but what if the two never got to be with one another?
Batman tried to clear his head of the idea. He turned on the TV in the hospital to see what was on. Sadly, the first thing that showed up on the screen was a news station that was showing clips of the event that had happened earlier. The hosts discussed what Joker's reasoning was for saving Batman if he had been so confident earlier about how the two weren't dating. Batman watched the clip for about a minute, tears building up in the back of his eyes. He decided to switch the channel, not being able to stand watching the news for much longer. Eventually he settled on watching some crappy game show. After about ten minutes of mindless entertainment, someone walked into Batman's room.
"Someone by the name of 'Barbara Gordon' just sent you a Get Well Soon card," a nurse told the hero, placing the card on the table next to him where all of his other cards and occasional presents were being held.
"If it's okay with you, I think I'll leave soon," Batman told the nurse, wanting to escape the hostile environment.
"We've discussed this sir, you can leave tomorrow morning," the nurse responded.
"By morning, do you mean 7:00 or midnight?" Batman asked.
"By midnight, only about 10 people will still be here, so 7:30," the nurse replied, becoming a bit fed up with Batman's sarcastic attitude.
"Ugh, if you say so," Batman mumbled as the nurse walked away. He opened up the card that Barbara had given him.
Bruce,
I hope that you get better quickly! There hasn't been any crime in the past few days, probably because the other villains are waiting for Joker to get better. If it hadn't been for you, Joker would've died, which I'm not sure is a good thing or not. Still, Richard really misses you, and he hopes that you can come home soon so he can give you a big hug! Though, with your side and all, I'm not sure that's the best idea...
Yours truly,
Barbara Gordon (aka Babs)
Batman smiled at the note. He knew that he was lucky to have such great friends and family. Then he thought about if Joker would make a good addition to the family. Heck, Richard might be able to have two dads, like he had originally thought. That was such a cheesy thought, but nevertheless, it was a nice one. Barbara's note suggested that Joker might still be alive. Batman wondered if the clown was being in the same hospital that he was. Considering the fact that he had the whole night practically to himself, he might be able to sneak into Joker's room and see how he was doing. He had the rest of the day to plan out how he would get to the Joker's room.

That night, about one hour after the lights had been turned off, Bruce slowly got out of bed. He held onto his side, not realizing that it might still hurt. He tried to brush it off, knowing that there was more important issues at hand. The vigilante snuck into the hallway stealthily, seeing that there was no one else in the hallway. Then, he crept up and down the many hallways, glimpsing into the rooms to see who was in there. His love wasn't in any of the rooms that he found for the first three floors. By floor four, Batman had almost given up. Finally, he saw the Joker laying down in one of the rooms. The clown was alive, seeing as how there was a gentile snore coming from him. Batman walked up to the Joker and poked his face a little, trying to wake him up. Joker didn't wake up, which meant that this was a deep sleep that he was in. Batman wanted more than anything to be able to talk to his crush, but he knew that Joker had been through a lot recently, so he needed all of the sleep he could get.
Bruce didn't want to just pop in and leave, so he slowly removed his mask, lowered his head, and gave Joker a long kiss on the forehead. Even though he was sleeping, Joker smiled at the warmth that the kiss brought. Bruce put his mask back on, and decided that he would let Joker know that he had been there. He picked up a pen and a sticky note off the little desk that resided next to the bed. On the note, he wrote:
Hey there J-bird. You were asleep when I got here, so I just wanted to say thank you for saving my life. If you wanted to get dinner sometime, I promise not to shoot you in the back. -Batsy
With that, Batman snuck back to his room.
