Ivy seemed to be getting the rough side of the attack. While Robin and Batman had been attacking Barbara with a lot of anger, they weren't going to hurt her too much because they were friends. Joker and Harley seemed to be acting the exact opposite. Because they were friends, they felt even more betrayed, and they wanted to make sure that she felt it. Ivy tried to not fight back as much as she could, but she tried to protect herself. Harley was furiously swinging her hammer in Ivy's direction, even though Ivy was blocking most of the attacks with a wall of vines and thorns. She was so focused on blocking Harley's moves that she didn't notice Joker coming from behind. He punched her in the back, knocking her into her thorn wall. Blood started to drip down Ivy's arm, so she summoned some flowers to wrap around her wound. While they did soak up most of the blood, the other two weren't done yet.
Harley grabbed Ivy by her necklace and forced her against the vine wall, making Ivy wince. The red and black wearing lady held up her hammer and hit Ivy in the side. The plant-crazed woman had tears starting up in the corners of her eyes. One week ago the two were giggling and talking about flowers and musicals, and here they were, beating each other. Ivy wanted to tell Harley how she really felt, but it seemed like Harley didn't want to hear anything that Ivy had to say. Still, she may not last much longer.
"Harley, please. You're my best friend. I made a mistake, and I'm sorry, but I don't want to die without being able to fix it," Ivy started her confession.
"I'm not going to kill you, Ivy. I'm just going to hurt you really, really bad," Harley responded, gritting her teeth.
Joker would've laughed at the reference during any other circumstances. Instead, he felt like showing Ivy what she had done wrong. When he started toward her, Batman put his hand on his boyfriend's shoulder. Joker looked over at Batman with a surprised look in his eyes. Why was Batman of all people stopping him from showing Ivy who was boss? It didn't seem like the dark knight to do so. Still, he figured that Harley had her covered for now. Besides, he was wondering how this would play out.
"I realize that I deserve this, but can you at least listen to me for a minute?" Ivy asked.
"I don't know, will it waste my time?" Harley asked in response.
"Please, I know you'll never forgive me for what I tried to do to Joker, but I never did it because I wanted to hurt either of you."
"You never meant to hurt Joker, yet you were willing to put him in jail? That makes sense!"
"Harley, I didn't want to hurt you."
"You should've thought of that sooner."
"I know I should've. Will you please listen to me?'
"I am listening to you! You're just not saying anything to prove your case!"
"I'm not trying to prove my case! I just need to tell you something!"
"Really? Why are you only waiting to tell me now, then?"
"I was scared to tell you before."
"What's so scary that you couldn't tell me before attacking my best friend?"
"Uh... I...."
"You're making a big deal out of it, tell me!"
"Well, you see..."
"If you don't tell me in ten seconds, then you're becoming a pancake!"
"Harley, we've known each other for so long..."
"Gee, I didn't know that! Glad you interrupted our battle to say..."
"I LOVE YOU!" Ivy finally yelled, preparing to receive another punch in the face.
Harley stood there in shock. Batman and Joker glanced at each other with a look of surprise. Even Robin and Barbara stopped their talk to look at Harley and Ivy. Harley dropped her hammer to the ground and took a couple of steps away from the other lady. She felt confused, because while she certainly liked Ivy, she wasn't sure that she liked her in the same way. Ivy felt ashamed, and she turned to run away from Harley. Before she could, Harley spoke up.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Harley asked.
"I told you, I was scared," Ivy replied.
"Didn't you want me to know?"
"Honestly, I don't know."
"Well, I do now. So now what?"
"You can kill me for all I care."
"Well, then I'd be the jerk now that I know that you love me."
"Nah, I'm still a jerk."
"Well, yeah. I just don't want to become as big of a jerk as you."
"You got me there."
"How long have you had a crush on me?"
"A few months, why?"
"I was just wondering."
The two fell into an awkward silence. Everyone else didn't know what to say, either. How could you follow up something like that? Even the people who usually always had something to say were dumbfounded. After all, things had escalated very quickly. Too quickly, in fact. Finally, Batman broke the silence.
"I think that it's about time that Robin goes to sleep," he suggested.
"I can tuck him in. That is, if your butler doesn't want to do it," Joker offered.
"Actually, I was hoping that you and I could talk a little bit longer," Batman replied.
"If that's the case, then I can tuck him in," Barbara added.
"No offense Babs, but you tried to arrest my boyfriend about a half an hour ago," Batman pointed out. Joker blushed at the mention of him being Batman's boyfriend.
Batman ended up calling Alfred to come pick up Robin. Harley and Barbara rode in Ivy's car to get home. Barbara rode in the back, so that left Harley and Ivy in the front seats. They barely looked each other in the eyes, but it seemed as though they both had the gentle touch of pink on their cheeks. Barbara attempted to wipe away her messy makeup, even if she didn't wear a lot in the first place. The three of them drove off at a pretty slow speed. That meant that Batman and Joker were finally alone.
"Now, about that talk," Joker continued, gazing over at Batman.
Author's Note:
So, the story is winding down a bit, and I think one of the next chapters might be the final one (for real this time). It might be a little soon to do a sequel (even though I have an idea for one), but I'd be willing to do one around the time that the school year ends. What do you guys think of a sequel, if I did make one?
