"Dad!" Robin yelled as his father was shot into the sky. The boy was so confident with how he untied his dad that he was caught by surprise when Batman suddenly zoomed into the sky. He quickly thought about what to do. The rocket would explode into fireworks after it had gone far enough up. The string holding Batman was long enough that he wouldn't explode with it, but when the rocket was done going up, Batman would go into free fall. This meant that they had maybe ten minutes or so before Batman was a goner. Luckily, Robin had an idea in mind. He called over Barbara and Alfred so that they could work it out.
"Here's the plan. Barbara will drive one of the police helicopters to where Batman will be falling. I'll jump out with a giant magnet strapped to my chest. Alfred will stay on the ground and hold the other magnet. I have a couple of giant magnets in my belt, luckily," Robin explained to his family.
"I'm not sure, Master Richard. An old man like me might not be able to keep a good hold on the magnet. You should let someone else do it," Alfred told Richard, rubbing his neck.
"Well, I would help you, but I need to steer Batman towards the other magnet," Robin replied.
"Maybe I can help," Joker suggested, adding himself to the conversation. The family stared at the intruder, worried looks on their faces.
"You're the one who started this mess in the first place," Barbara said, glaring at the clown.
"I know, but I realized that it was a wrong way to deal with my issues. Please, I want to help," Joker pleaded.
"Barbara, we don't have time to argue, we need to save Dad," Robin said to his friend, anguish in his eyes.
"Fine, but only this once," Barbara said, jogging over to a helicopter.
Robin quickly handed over one of the magnets and some tape to Joker as the clown followed Barbara into the police helicopter. Joker started to anxiously tape the magnet to his chest as he and Barbara raised into the sky. They searched through the clouds to find Batman, and Joker yelled and pointed when he found him. The hero was attempting to use his cape as a parachute, but he couldn't get a hold on the end of his cape. Joker looked over at the commissioner and gave a quick nod. Barbara opened up the side of the helicopter, which was Joker's queue to jump out and grab Batman. This is exactly what Joker did without hesitation, moving through the air to get to Batman. When he did, he stretched out and held onto his enemy's arms. He began guiding him to the magnet that was being held by Alfred and Robin. Batman was pretty confused as to what was going on. About 20 minutes ago they were fighting, and now they were holding onto each other's arms for dear life.
"Joker, what are you doing?" Batman asked, loud enough for the Joker to hear.
"I'm here to save you from falling on the ground and dying, if that's okay," Joker replied sarcastically, keeping his focus on the other magnet that was being held on a rooftop down below.
"Yeah, but why? Didn't you want me to die?" Batman continued his questions.
"I didn't know what I wanted, but I think I do now," Joker responded, still not looking Batman in the eyes.
"And what's that?" Batman asked.
"I'll wait and tell you when we're on the ground."
"Do you have a parachute? If you don't, then you might want to think about telling me now."
"I don't have a parachute with me. Look, your family and I didn't have a lot of time to think this through."
