This is dedicated to Burned_Ash Imagine living in Mirkwood, and being best friends with Thranduil. (You're both only teenagers) One day you learn that you have a terminal illness, and realize there are many things you still haven't done. Thranduil helps you mark off your bucket list...

The dawn was breaking over the immense forest of the Greenwood. The softness of your bed did little to comfort your aching heart, and your aching body. Next to you were piles of books, most of them read. But today however, you started losing interest in them.

What was the point of distracting yourself from the inevitable?

Two weeks ago today, you had been diagnosed with a severe illness. Right away they had offered you a trip to Valinor, but you didn't take it.

Why you may ask?

Your best friend, Thranduil.

You could not bring yourself to leave him, though you didn't tell him that you were in grave danger.

In essence, you were dying for the sake of being near him.

You tried to get up, but found yourself instantly feeling weak. The healer had said it would set in this fast. Most everyday you had felt normal but by the end of it, you went to bed feeling weak and dead tired.

This morning you were supposed to meet Thranduil for breakfast, but you were just too weak. You started dozing off, and an hour later the first thing you saw when you opened your eyes was Thranduil, sitting quietly beside you.

He had small tears in his eyes, and he reached for your hand.

"When were you going to tell me?" he murmured

Sitting up carefully, you replied: "What do you mean?"

"Don't try and fool me (Y/N/H), you're a terrible liar," he said softly, "I asked around if anybody had seen you. The healer said she hadn't, but that she knew where you'd be. I asked her how she would know that and she told me. And she was right."

You sighed and looked down.

"I meant to tell you, but I just couldn't bring myself to. I didn't want to worry you," you brushed off.

"That was a mistake, because darling I will always care about you," he said sweetly, but sincerely, "but I have one question: why don't you leave for Valinor?"

You hoped he couldn't see your blush, and rather than tell him it was because of him you said: "I-I stayed because there is a lot I haven't done, and I need to."

He sat back, eyebrows scrunched, in deep thought.

Suddenly, he jumped up in excitement.

"Ok then!" he exclaimed, "I'll help you!"

Deciding it was a once in a lifetime chance, you agreed: "If you insist."

He smiled devilishly and picked you up, eliciting a squeal from you.

"Where first, my queen?" he asked gallantly.

You smiled, "A picnic by the falls might be in order."

With that he set you down and took your hand, making your blush reappear. He took you to the kitchen, and grabbed several items, shoving them all into a basket.
