Jesy's POV
The night of the funeral, both girls fell asleep on the couch in the living room watching 'Moana,' I had carried them up to bed. I knew I needed to set some rules, a bedtime and things to help them settle down. I was heading up to bed myself at just after 11 when I heard crying from the girls bedroom, rushing in I saw Eloise stood in the middle of the room sobbing, her pyjama shorts wet.
When she notices me stood at the door, her big blue eyes widen and her mouth moves like she is trying to say something but no noise comes out.
Me: "Hey, hey, whats the matter princess," I asked concerned, walking closer to her.
Eloise: "I-I'm sorry, I-I d-didn't mean to, I'm s-sorry," she said, tears still falling.
Me: "Hey, it's just me, come on talk to me," I said sitting on the edge of her bed, eventually putting two and two together, the wet pyjamas, tears and wet sheets. She had an accident. "Angel, it's okay, it was an accident, it doesn't matter," I said standing up again, grabbing some clean pyjamas out of the drawer and her elephant from the pillow, feeling he was wet I put him back down, after Eloise was asleep again, I would put the sheets and the stuffed animal in the wash.
Eloise: "I-I'm sorry," she said clinging to me tightly, tears running down her face.
Me: "Oh sweetheart, you don't have to apologise, it was an accident, it doesn't matter," I repeated, she buried her head into the crook of my neck as I walked us into my bedroom, and through to the bathroom. "No more tears, now, no more," I said wiping the tears away from her cheeks. "Lets get you all clean, yeah," I said, placing her on the floor in front of the bath.
Eloise: "No, no bath, please," she stammered, tugging on my shirt as I turned the taps on.
Me: "Just a super quick one, yeah, to get you all clean and warm and then you can sleep in my bed," I took off her wet pyjamas putting them in a pile in the corner of the bathroom,
Eloise: "I-I s-ssorry, I no mean t-to" she stammers as I place her gently in the bath.
Me: "Hey, hey, look at me," I say lifting her chin so she is looking me in the eyes, "I know you didn't mean too, It was an accident, It doesn't matter, we can make it all better," I gently wash her legs down with the wash cloth. I knew that it was quite common for small children to wet the bed, but Ellie hadn't prior to the accident so I thought it could be part of the nightmares and anxiety. I hated thinking of her so scared in her sleep that she wet herself, I wished I could take all the memories and pain away from them, as difficult as it was for me coping with our parents death, they were coping with the death as well as the fact that they practically watched it, and now have to cope with the horrible memories and nightmares of the crash. In a way I was glad that they were only young, they would forget and be able to move on, I don'r remember anything from when I was five, so while they wouldn't remember the crash they also probably wouldn't remember our parents, which broke my heart slightly. I didn't want them ever to forget them, I vowed to talk about them everyday and put pictures around the house.
Me: "There we go, all done, bubba girl," I said lifting her out of the bath, wiping away the stray tears left on her face. I wrapped her tightly in a fluffy warm towel, "let's get dressed and go back to bed, okay?" I asked, she smiled slightly clinging tightly to the neck of my shirt.
I helped her back into the clean pyjamas, if this was going to happen on a regular basis maybe I should look into getting some pull ups for her to wear at night.
Eloise: "I want e'phant and blankie, Jess," she said in a voice barely audible, sucking her thumb and clutching my pyjama top.
Me: "They're dirty baby, in the washer, but I promise you can have him in the morning, okay?" I said gently, pushing her hair off her face.
