Jesy's POV

After Eloise's bedtime meltdown last night, she didn't sleep an awful lot. I had expected her to have a nap at some point during the day but it was now nearly dinner time and she hadn't.

Me: "Ellie, why don't you have a nap before dinner?" I suggested watching her struggle to stay awake playing with Olivia.

Eloise: "No, I'm not tired..." she said sitting herself bolt upright.

Me: "Don't lie baba, I can see that you are tired," I said hoping that a sterner approach would make her admit.

Eloise: "I'm not tired, I wanna play with Livy," she said crossing her arms determined.

Me: "Okay, don't have a nap," I gave in, I wasn't going to argue with her about taking a nap, she'd fall asleep eventually.

Sticking to her guns, Eloise didn't sleep that night. At all. That night.

I had put her to bed like normal, after a bath and a story, at just after 7pm. Normally I would check in on them about thirty minutes later and both girls would be fast asleep. When I checked tonight, Olivia was sleeping soundly, Eloise wide awake staring at the ceiling.

Me: "Eloise, go to sleep darling. It's late and it's time to sleep," I said tucking the duvet cover up to her chin again.

Eloise: "I wanna sleep in your bed with you..." she said quietly reaching up to be held.

Me: "No, sleep in here in your own bed," I said, inwardly panicking she hadn't asked to sleep with me for a long time.

Eloise: "With you... please mama," she practically begged me wriggling to sit up.

Me: "No angel, it's bedtime and you're going to sleep in here," I said lying her down, "I love you, see you in the morning," I said leaving the room, it absolutely broke my heard she was clearly having a bad time, but I didn't want to give in and be stuck like we were before when she couldn't sleep in her own bed.

I sat back downstairs with my phone but I knew that wasn't going to be the end of the drama for the evening. Just a few minutes later, there was a little voice from the stairs.

Eloise: "Mama?" she said quietly peering down from the stairs.

Me: "Eloise? What are you doing downstairs?" I said sighing.

Eloise: "I wanted you..." she said coming closer and climbing on the couch next to me.

Me: "What's the matter? You've not been yourself today..." I wondered, "Do you feel poorly?" I suggested.

Eloise: "No, I wanna sleep with you..." she whined as I lifted her on to my lap.

Me: "Why? You've been such a good little girl sleeping in your own bed for a really long time," I praised exaggeratedly.

Eloise: "I don't want to anymore..."

Me: "Come on, let's get all cosy and I'll tell you a story," I said hoping that she would fall asleep and I would be able to put her straight in to bed.

Eloise snuggled in to my shoulder as I told the story of 'Cinderella' she began to suck her thumb about half way through so I thought that she would be fast asleep by the time Cinderella had made it to the ball but as Prince Charming and Cinderella married she was still wide awake. I had no idea how she was doing it, she must have been exhausted!

Me: "Go on, Ellie, go to sleep," I nudged rocking her back and forth.

Eloise: "No, I only sleep with you in your bed..." she said adamantly.
