Jesy's POV
Tonight is my date with Josh, we've been texted all the time since we met last week and he offered to take me out to dinner at a lovely little Italian restaurant in the city. Leigh Anne offered to come and look after the girls, it's Saturday so they're not at school, I've spent the whole morning with them, going to the park and now we're baking together, so I don't feel guilty about leaving tonight.
I've not exactly told the girls about what tonight actually is, as far as they know I am going for a meal with a few old friends. They weren't particularly happy when I did tell them that I was going out and Olivia pointed out multiple times that 'I went out last week, why do you need to go again!?' but I just tactically avoided the question. I didn't feel great about lying to them however I didn't want them to feel jealous or uncomfortable with the idea of me going on a date and if anything happens with mine and Josh's relationship, I would always tell the girls!
Olivia: "Jesy? Can you read that new story book before bed tonight?" she asked. There is a little quirky shop opposite the park, that the girls always convince me into going into and it's one of those where you see something that you don't need, don't have room/time for but for some reason feel the desperate need to own it! Last time I came away with an adults colouring book, LED lights for the garden and a set of four cupcake shaped bath bombs. Luckily this time we escaped with just a new story book, after I refused to buy a dog bowl for Eloise's toy and glow in the dark nail varnish, although that might be a purchase next time because like I said for some reason I have the overwhelming urge for my fingernails to glow in the dark!
Me: "I can't because I'm going out but I'm sure Aunty Leigh-Leigh will,"
Eloise: "Where are you going?!" she asked immediately stopping decorating some of the cupcakes, eating the large majority of the toppings before they made it to the cakes.
Me: "I've told you before, girls, I'm going out with a few old friends,"
Olivia: "Why are you friends with old people? And don't they go out early?!" she asked in disbelief.
Me: "No, Olivia. They're not actually old people, they're old friends," I said explaining again when Eloise started to talk about my pensioner friends. "They're friends that I knew a long time ago,"
Eloise: "Oh, okay!"
Olivia: "Yeah, no one wants to be friends with old people anyway,"
Me: "Uh! Olivia! Don't be rude, just because a person has had a few more birthdays than you doesn't mean they can't have friends too!"
Olivia: "Well, old people forget things so even if they did have friends they wouldn't remember who they were anyway," she argued back. I am no longer looking forward to my old age when these two girls are the ones looking after me.
Me: "No, not all old people are forgetful, just some and even when you're old and you might be a bit forgetful, I bet Eloise will still want to be your friend," I said hopefully.
Eloise: "Not if you smell," Eloise said promptly walking out of the kitchen. Kids are just so blunt and honest, I didn't quite know how to respond. Luckily Olivia turned back to her cupcakes and we moved on.
I was slightly worried that we hadn't actually got on to the whole going out tonight thing, but I didn't particularly want to bring it up again. I had a few more hours and decided to wait until the perfect time to do so. That 'perfect time' never actually came until Leigh Anne showed up at the front door, an hour before I was going out.
Olivia: "Why is Aunty Leigh here?"
Leigh Anne: "Nice to see you too, Livy!" she joked.
Me: "Be polite, Livs, please. Aunty Leigh Anne is here to look after you tonight,"
