Jesy's POV
Olivia has been wanting to get her ears pierced for ever! She's almost eight years old and a lot of her school friends have had there's done recently, but I was still reluctant to let her have them done. Our parents had made me wait until I was ten to have them done and I had planned on making Olivia and Eloise wait too. But for the past week all she has done is beg, plead and annoy me with endless comments.
Olivia: "Emily got her ears pierced yesterday, please please please can I get mine done," with her big eyes fluttering at me.
Me: "Lucky Emily! But you're not getting your's done until your older,"
Olivia: "Emily's got pretty flowers in her ears though, Jess,"
Me: "And I'm sure there lovely, but your not having your ears pierced yet,"
Olivia: "That's not fair!" she huffed, "all my friends have them done!"
Me: "Isabelle doesn't, Kate won't let her get them done until she's thirteen," I said, I had asked the studio owner, Kate a few times what she thought during the weeks of begging.
------
Perrie: "But really, it's not that bad, Jess! She's not asking for a tattoo or a belly ring, it's just a simple stud in her ear," Perrie reassured another day.
Me: "I know, but she's not ready, not yet anyway,"
Perrie: "Whatever, Jesy! But she is ready or she wouldn't be crying in the other room because you've told her no again," she pointed out.
Me: "She's not ready, I'm not ready, same thing," I ended the conversation.
Perrie just shook her head and reassured me that if I was still refusing by the time she was fourteen, Perrie would just take the two of them instead.
I was still standing my ground a week later when Olivia came down the stairs for dinner. Jade, Perrie and Leigh Anne were sat with me around the table and it was Jade that noticed it the first time. But it was when she came downstairs having 'pierced her ear' with my black Sharpie that I decided she could actually have them done!
Jade: "Olivia? What is on your ear?!" she asked. Instantly my eyes widened and my head slowly turned towards Olivia stood sheepishly at the other side of the table.
Me: "Olivia? Aunty Jade has asked you a question," I repeated firmly. "What is on your ear?" I said from where I was sat I could see was two small black dots on her ears.
Olivia: "Earrings..."
Me: "Earrings?! Come here," I said pulling her towards me as soon as I could reach. "What did you do that with?!" I rubbed my finger over the black spotted ear lobe.
Olivia: "Your special black pen..."
Me: "Go upstairs and wash it off... Now!" I demanded, pushing her lightly out of the kitchen, as the four of us dissolved into laughter.
Me: "Fine, fine! She can have her ears pierced!!" I finally decided.
So the next day Perrie and I visited a tattoo parlour that would pierce children's ears, it had taken forever to find somewhere that would, not wanting to take her to Claire's. I was still um'ing and ah'ing on the way, but eventually realised that the truth was, I was terrified of taking her. I mean, I had no idea how she would react. When I had my ears pierced on the morning of my tenth birthday, I remember screaming bloody murder in a full Claire's shop on a Saturday morning, so much that the next little girl in the queue had refused to have her's done. It was not my finest moment. So really, the options of things that could go wrong were endless. At least in my head they were.
