Jesy's POV

In the past few weeks I had started getting the girls to do chores, not majorly difficult things but they were 7 and 5 so were old enough to do a few little things to help me. They had been causing a lot of mess and just leaving me to clear up after them and I was getting tired of it, the final straw had been coming into the girls room to put them to bed to find practically all of their toys strewn across the room with them having made absolutely no attempt to clean it up.

The main chores that I had them do were making their beds, keeping their room tidy and helping lay the table before dinner. They had to make sure their chores were done before they were allowed to play. Eloise was quite excited to have chores, I had made it a big thing telling them making it seem like all big kids had to do chores etc. etc. and always did hers without being asked telling me proudly once they were done happily accepting a few smarties or M&M's as a treat but Olivia wasn't quite so easily fooled. She knew exactly what chores were and complained, moaned and procrastinated as much as she could to get away with not doing it.

Olivia: "Can we go and play outside?" she said running down the stairs two at a time.

Me: "Hey, be careful on the stairs. I've told you loads of times not to run in the house," I warned sternly catching her at the bottom.

Olivia: "Sorry Jesy," she said sheepishly. "So, can I play outside?" she said cheering up again, looking at me hopefully.

Me: "Is your bed made and your toys tidy?" I asked.

Olivia: "Yep," she told me confidently.

Me: "Let me check and we can ask Ellie if she wants to play too," I said going upstairs.

Olivia: "You don't need to check, I promise I did them, I did Jess," she said trying to stop me going up the stairs, pulling my arm backwards. Well, now I was definitely going to check.

Me: "Excuse me, Olivia. I've already told you today about being careful on the stairs," I warned again raising my eyebrows. "If I have to tell you one more time you're definitely not going out to play today," knowing I was being serious Olivia stopped tugging me down the stairs and let me got into the girls room at the top.

By the time I was at the top of the stairs Olivia was hanging back nervously so I knew that she hadn't done what she said she had, opening the girls room door was only confirmation. Eloise was sat on the floor in front of her bed with a toy quietly playing, her bed made and her side of the room perfectly tidy, Olivia's bed unmade and covered with her dress up clothes that the girls had been playing this morning, her toys were across the floor toy box wide open.

Me: "Good girl Ellie Belle," I praised checking she was okay before turning around to see Olivia nervously stood by the door. "I don't like lying, Olivia," I said calmly.

Olivia: "Sorry, Jess," she said standing next to me.

Me: "This is your warning, next time you lie to me, you'll be in trouble," I said directing her towards her side of the bedroom to complete her chores.

I watched for a couple of minutes as she made her bed slowly almost making a point to me, I ignored her laughing silently to myself before turning and going downstairs to keep making lunch.

Me: "Do your chores and then you can go and play outside," I said as I left the room, kissing both girls on the forehead ignoring Olivia rolling her eyes. She had become quite sassy recently, other school parents had told me that it was normal, 'the sassy sevens' apparently.
