*Shawn's POV*
During the time I was on tour, I never really had very much free time because of all the shows, interviews, and plane flights that left me desperate for sleep. But, when I did have some extra time, I always used it to talk to my wife Y/n and our two kids who were back at home.
At the moment, I was facetiming Y/n and I watched our six-year-old daughter Lily and our twelve-year-old son Josh walk in through the door behind her.
"Hey, kids, come talk to Dad!" she called as Lily ran over, her short curls bouncing. "Daddy!" she squealed and I saw her adorable face pop up on the screen.
I smiled, happy to be able to see her, "Hi honey, how was your day at school?"
"It was great!" she beamed, looking right at me, "But I miss you." What she said pulled at my heart, but I tried to stay strong so she wouldn't be sad.
"I miss you too," I sighed, "But I promise that I'll come home from tour as soon as I possibly can so I can be with you."
Lily turned from the screen so I could see Josh in the background. "Josh," she said, "Aren't you gonna talk to Dad?"
He quickly walked by barely looking up from his phone. "Hey, Dad," he muttered then went swiftly up the stairs and into his room.
"What was that?" I asked, confused. In the past, he had always been happy to see me whenever he could. "What's going on with him?"
Y/n had Lily leave the room before leaning forwards and talking to me. "Josh has been like that for a couple of days. He thought you would be home for his final hockey game of the season tomorrow, but I told him that you will still be touring for two more weeks," she explained, "I guess he is mad that you've been gone for so long and missed so much."
I knew this would happen, especially as my kids got older, but I was still pretty shocked as I rested my head in my hand. Truth is, I really hated being away from my family, but I had to do it. "Josh is right, I'm missing everything," I admitted, "This whole situation sucks!"
"Shawn, it's okay," Y/n tried to assure me, "He is just being overly dramatic."
I shook my head, "No, it's my fault. Lily misses me too. I need to spend some time with all of you." Making my decision, I continued, "I'm coming home for a visit tomorrow no matter what it takes."
Y/n didn't try to change my mind, I'm sure she was missing me just as much as our kids were. "As long as it's not going to hurt you or your career, I won't stop you," she smiled, "It would be nice to have some family time after all the time you've been away."
Right then and there, I texted my crew who all eventually agreed that we could use some time off. And it would work fine with our schedule since we didn't have another show for three days.
"I'm so excited, baby. I'll see you and the kids tomorrow!" I cheered, running a hand through my hair.
"I can't wait!" Y/n grinned, "Have a safe flight, love you!"
"Love you too, darling," I ended the call before gathering all my things in my hotel room. I was finally going to see my family in person again.
                              **The next day**
When I knocked on the door back at home, Y/n answered and practically jumped into my arms. With her arms gently around my neck, she kissed me and I kissed back as we walked inside. "You don't know how long I've been waiting to do that," she breathed and grabbed my hand.
                              "I think I do," I smirked.
It was a huge surprise for our kids when they found out I was home and I loved seeing how excited they were, Lily grabbed onto my leg and didn't let go for what felt like forever. And I honestly didn't want her to.
After hugging Josh, I squatted down slightly to meet his eyes better. "I'm sorry I had to miss so much and I wish that I could be here with you more, but it's my responsibility that I have to do for my job," I told him, hoping that he would forgive me.
"It's okay, Dad," Josh spoke, "I understand and I'm sorry for getting so upset."
"That's my boy," I patted him on the back and hugged him again, "Now let's go win that hockey game."
For the entire game, Y/n, Lily and I cheered like crazy and Josh did really well. Seeing him play just like I had as a kid overwhelmed me with happiness from the assurance that I could successfully balance a great career and a beautiful family.
"You're amazing, you know that?" Y/n smiled up at me.
"Thank you," I said, resting my chin on the top of her head, "I try my best."
                              -----------
A/n: That was a lot longer than I wanted this to be but I liked this one. I swear Shawn plus kids just equals cuteness. Anyway, thank you so much for reading and don't forget to vote and comment if you like it!
Btw I might start writing in 3rd person because I think that might turn out better so expect that in the future and if you don't want that then let me know.
                              Thanks again!!
