Baby Girl: For Jessie

*Jessie's POV*

Outside it was pouring down rain. It was a pretty big storm with thunder and lightning that pierced through the dark night sky.

I was lying next to my husband, Shawn. We were both asleep along with our daughter, Allison, who was in the room next to ours.

Thunder boomed from outside and I woke up to Allison starting to cry.

I slipped out of Shawn's arms and got out of bed.

"I'm coming sweetie," I called and walled into her room. I flipped the switch to the light and walked over to her crib.

She was wide awake, crying a lot.

"Shh, it's okay Ally," I gently picked her up, propping her head up against my chest. I tried to calm her down by bouncing her slightly in my arms and rocking her small body back and forth.

Allison continued to cry, maybe a little quieter than before, but still fussy. And definitely not asleep.

I sat down in the rocking chair in the corner of the room, trying to sooth her. Quiet hums of lullabies left my lips as I rocked her.

Allison would almost seem to calm down and get tired, but then she would start crying again.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get her to go back to sleep. "Come on, baby," I yawned, "Aren't you tired, love?"

Just then, Shawn showed up in the doorway, wearing grey sweatpants and a white t-shirt. "She won't go back to sleep, will she?" he smiled.

"Nope," I said, "I've been trying for a while."

Shawn came over to me, "Can I try?"

"Yeah, go ahead," I carefully moved Allison to Shawn's arms.

He held her, looking down at her face and rocking her back and forth. He hummed a little bit and started to sing slowly and softly, "Isn't she lovely. . .Isn't she wonderful. . ." His voice sounded perfect even in the middle of the night.

Allison stopped crying.

I was amazed. "How did you - " I tried.

Shawn cut me off, "Shhhh."

I watched Allison's eyes slowly close and in no time she was asleep again. Shawn slowly turned around and gently placed her in her crib. She stayed still with her arms resting above her head.

"How did you do that so easily?" I whispered.

"I guess she's just a daddy's girl," he told.

I stared at him with a smile.

"But she only fell asleep in my arms because I'm boring and she wants to be awake with her beautiful mama," he pecked me on the lips.

"Thank you," I grinned.

His arms went around me. "We should get asleep before our baby girl wakes up again," Shawn suggested.

I agreed. We turned off the light, went back to our room, and laid down in bed. There was still the sound of rain falling down against the roof.

Shawn's hands went aroundy waist. "I love you, Jessie," he whispered and planted kisses on my neck before we fell asleep.
