*Shawn's POV*

Y/n and I have been dating for a few months and it has been going really great. She loves me even with me having to wear hearing aids. I can hear a little without them, but not much. I've had to wear them since I was a little kid and I always thought I would never get a girlfriend who loves me because of that. But Y/n does.

One day Y/n and I were going to our city's mall with my parents and my sister, Aaliyah.

I was always self conscious about my hearing aids when we went to public places, but that day it was worse. I didn't want the anxiety of being the only person in the mall with hearing aids on.

The only way I was going to fit in was if I didn't wear them. So that's what I did.

At first, everything was just muted a bit and I felt pretty much normal. But, when we went actually to the mall, the sound was really loud. I wasn't used to hearing without anything helping me, so everything was almost painfully loud.

I started to get really overwhelmed by the noise and my breathing quickened.

"Shawn?" Y/n faced me looking worried, "Shawn are you okay?"

My family was looking at me and it was drawing attention from random people passing by and it felt like everyone was staring at me.

I pressed my hand to my chest and stumbled to a bench that was near by, falling into a sitting position.

*Y/n's POV*

I was out with Shawn and his family when Shawn had a panic attack.

"He's not wearing his hearing aids," Aaliyah pointed out.

I immediately knew what was happening. Shawn had told me before that he hated wearing his hearing aids even though he needed them.

I kneeled in front of him and checked his pockets, finding his hearing aids. "Shawn, baby, just try to breath and put these back on," I advised, handing them to him.

Shawn didn't argue and put them on his ears. Then he sat there, trying to catch his breath and calm down. Karen rubbed his hand.

After a little bit, Shawn spoke, "I'm okay now."

"What were you thinking Shawn?" his mom pressed, "You need those to hear. You can't just take them off whenever you feel like it." Both of his parents looked pretty disappointed and upset with him.

Shawn's eyes looked back and forth at each of their faces. I knew he was feeling worse and worse as they scolded him for it. He seemed close to crying.

"Shawn, it's okay," I stroked his face, getting his attention, "Why don't you come with me to get some water?"

He nodded and I helped him up. He stumbled a bit at first, but I steadied him.

"We'll be right back," I told his family. I lead him over to one of the restaurants in the food court. I chose the one with the longest line so Shawn and I could talk.

"Babe," I held his hands, "Do you want to tell me what happened?"

"I just didn't want to be the one who is different from everyone else for one day," he explained, looking at the floor, "I never fit in with everyone else."

"Shawn, being different isn't bad and it doesn't matter," I looked in his eyes, "I love you. And your family loves you. No matter what I will love you. There's so much more to you that everyone see's than just the fact that you need hearing aids."

"I love you too," Shawn hugged me tightly with his head in my neck.

"You promise you won't do that again?" I asked, "I don't want anything happening to you because of it."

"I won't," he said, "I promise."

I hope this was good and not too short. It's such a good idea though. Love it.
