*Y/n's POV*

"Shawn?" My voice broke slightly. I had just woken up from a hazy sleep.

"I'm here," he was standing by the door and came over to the side of my hospital bed, "I didn't know you were awake."

"I just woke up," I told, "How long was I asleep?"

"Just a couple hours," Shawn said, then added, "Oh, I should tell you that your doctor came in earlier to talk to you, but you were asleep so she said she'd come back later."

I nodded. With all the medicine I was getting for pain and for my recovery, I slept a lot of the day. Also, I was completely stuck in the hospital so far, making sleeping one of the only things I could do. I hoped that when my doctor came to talk to me, she would say that I could finally leave the hospital and go home. "Hey, Shawn, how many days have I been here in the hospital?" I asked since with all the time I spent sleeping, I wasn't completely sure.

"It's been two days," Shawn told me.  By then, he had sat down on the edge of the bed next to me and was holding my hand gently.

"And you're still here?"

"Of course. I wouldn't just leave you here by yourself."

I smiled, "Thank you." He smiled and kissed my forehead in response.

Less than a minute later, my doctor walked into the room. "Oh, good, you're awake," she greeted, shutting the door behind her, "How are you feeling?"

"Um, I'm a little painful," I said, "but I think it's getting better. Slowly."

"Good, that's great," she replied. I was imagining her saying that I could go home over and over in my head. But instead, she said, "I have good and bad news."

My heart dropped.

"The good news is," she continued, "Your surgery went fine and you are recovering great, just how we thought you would. However, the bad news is we don't know how long you are going to have to stay here."

I saw that Shawn was no longer smiling. He looked confused, "Why don't you know?"

"Well," my doctor explained, "It is going to take a few days to see if your cancer will spread. We need to do some tests before we'll know. And also we need to watch you and make sure we do something if your cancer does spread. You're not entirely out of the woods yet." (just so you know, this probably isn't correct. I'm not an expert on cancer or anything, but hopefully it still works)

I sighed and stared down at the white sheet laying on my legs, "Okay."

"But I will promise you that we are doing everything we can to get you back at home, happy and healthy," she added. After saying goodbye, and thanking her, my doctor soon left out the door.

Once she had left, I looked up at Shawn, my head still tilted down, and he stared back at me. "It's okay," he tried to comfort me, "It'll be okay."

"You're probably right." I leaned my head back against my pillow. "I know I should be happy that the surgery went fine and I know I am luckier than a lot of people, but it still just sucks that I'm stuck here. Also, I might not even be okay and I can't say that doesn't worry me." I covered my face with my hands.

"Well, if you're gonna be stuck here, then I'm gonna be stuck here too," Shawn decided.

I looked up at him, "What do you mean?"

"I mean, that I'm going to stay here with you as much as I can and only leave if I absolutely have to." He offered a slight smile. "Because you're not going through this alone."
