I psyched myself up to tell Susan about me moving out over the next few days, but the time hasn't seemed right. I had waited and waited for the perfect time to bring it up, but she turned cold every time I mentioned Barry, so in the end I just blurted it out. She looked shocked to say the least and then angry, "what did you say?"
"I said I'm going to move in with Barry."
"When was this decided?!"
"When he gave me his key," I tried to sound confident.
"I thought that was just so you could visit, not so you could live with him! Casey this is so irresponsible of you!"
"How is moving on with my life irresponsible?" I argued.
"You hardly know this man! He could be a serial killer for all you know!"
"You've met him, do you really think he looks like a serial killer?"
"To be honest he doesn't look like he should be interested in you."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Well he doesn't really look like the type of man who would choose... the company of women, Casey..."
I snorted, "we'll I'm sorry it looks that way! What's it to you? I'm moving in with him whether you like it or not! I appreciate you looking after me and everything, but I'm not being controlled by anyone anymore."
"I know I can't stop you, I just want you to think about it..."
"I have thought about it, and I've made my decision."
She sighed, "okay. Just be careful... okay?"
"I'm always careful."
"If anything happens to you then I won't forgive myself."
"Nothing will happen to me... and I'll come and visit..."
She smiled sadly and hugged me. She had become my mother figure over the months I had lived there and I knew she was only looking out for me. I'd miss her too, but I knew what I wanted now.
Him.
