It seems to me that Arthorias was distancing himself from the other players, isolating himself to stay above the other players and become a symbol.

To some he would be an example of strength, to others he would be a tyrant trying to leverage control.

To me, he seems to be a martyr.

After another breathe Arthorias continued "Next when the players have broken into disarray, the frontal team will engage the aggressors. Now here is where you all come in, this is where you come into play."
