Chapter 21

Alex

Kara flows around the dance floor in Mon-Els arms. Their swift and elegant movements make everyone else's dancing look silly. Especially mine. Me and Maggie glide past them, both Kara and Mon-El intensely staring into each others eyes smiling.

I smile at Kara and she just about averts her eyes away from Mon-Els just enough to smile at me before staring back at him. They're in their own little world. J'onn is dancing with Meghan, Winn with Lyra.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Winn suddenly dart out of the room. The detective side of me wants to know why. But I should focus on Kara.

After a few rounds around the floor I see Winn return with a familiar but unwelcome face.

"Winn?" I ask harshly as I pull away from Maggie. Me and Maggie both stop dancing and Kara notices as her and Mon-El approach.

"Alex, Maggie u guys ok....." Kara's face drops from an expression of pure joy and happiness to shock and maybe fear.

"James?" Kara asks her voice shaking. Mon-El takes a warning step towards James. Kara puts her arm out in front of Mon-El knowing what he could do if she let him.

"Look man you need to leave." Mon-El says from the other side of karas barrier. He takes another step towards James pushing against Kara's arm.

"I just wanted to congratulate you guys. I'm sure you'll be very happy." He says as convincingly as he can. Its not very convincing at all.

"Thank you James We are very happy. Is that all you wanted?" Mon-Els tone is turning more interrogating by the second.

"Please Mon-El not tonight." Kara says wearily pulling her arm away slightly.

"Kara if he's upsetting you..." Mon-El begins.

"Can I talk to Kara...in private?" I can tell James isn't going to leave without getting what he wants.

"No you can't." Mon-El instructs sharply.

"Then can I speak to you?" Mon-El looks taken back by Jame's request.

"Gladly." Mon-El replies clearly.

"Then Kara afterwards?"

"Yes." Kara replies before Mon-El can get a word in to protest.

"Lets go outside." Mon-El jesters for James to lead.

Mon-El

"What do you want James?" I stand with my arms crossed in the freezing air. But I'm not standing like this because of the cold.

"I'm not here to upset anyone..." I don't believe him. I'm never going to believe anything he says again.

"Of coarse your not." I interrupt.

"No Mon-El I'm not I'm...."

"How can I believe anything you say? How can you think I'm going to let you anywhere near Kara not to mention alone with her.

You kissed her James.

You kissed her without her wanting you to and now she doesn't know what to do because she doesn't trust you.

Do you know what that does to her? Kara being Kara she sees the good in everyone and so for her to not trust one of her closest best friends kills her. It makes her sad everyday.

But this is her one day of happiness, the one day she can be Kara without hiding from the world, the one day I want her to enjoy the most and I am not going to let you ruin it for her!" I almost shout my words at him.
