****Brendon's Point Of View****
The end of semester recital arrived quicker than I expected. I had a whole list of things I could play, but I didn't know what I should. I didn't want to make a fool of myself and ruin the recital for everyone else.
I had been given a 10 minute slot, right at the end. It was the morning of the recital day, and I still had no idea what on earth I was going to play.
This stupid cast didn't make it any easier.
I didn't want to play something boring but something super interesting was nearly impossible with the cast.
I was sitting in the rehearsal room with Dallon, trying to figure out what on earth I could attempt to play. I was mostly just adjusting some old songs of mine that I'd been writing. Ms Kindlier had reccommended that I sing, too, so I was trying to incorperate some of that.
Everyone else seemed so confident and then I was just trying to work out what to play. Everyone else clearly had practised heaps. Especially Dallon.
As the time to play drew closer, I became more and more panicked.
I was just playing random notes, not knowing what to do.
"Alright! Let's head backstage!" Ms Kindlier chirped.
I froze. This was not going well.
Dallon took my arm and led me to the backstage area. He informed me that people were already piling into the theatre.
"I-I'm not ready..."
"You'll be fine Bren."
"I don't know what I'm gonna play."
"You've been practiciNg all day!"
"I haven't chosen a song!"
"Just don't stress. Let it flow, like you always do."
"Okay..."
The first group of students went on.
They sounded pretty good. The audience was enjoying it.
A few more groups went on, before it was Dallon's turn. I stood just behind the curtain to listen.
He seemed so confident, and the song was so good.
He played with such soul.
I was just amazed.
At the end, I burst into applause.
The whole audience did too.
Dallon came offstage.
"That was so good." I told him, after he'd grabbed my arm gently
"Thanks Bren. Nowhere near as good as you though."
"I'm not sure about that."
"I am."
"O-oh, okay..."
We stood and listened until it was my turn.
I just took a few deep breaths.
Dallon took my arm and led me to the pIano.
"Thanks." I whispered.
The microphone picked it up and sent it booming through the theatre.
I frowned. This clearly was destined to fail.
Dallon sat me down and left the stage. I adjusted my glasses and took a deep breath, knowing that everyone was looking at me.
