***** Dallon's Point of View *****
I just stood back and watched as Brendon explored the dorm. Running his hands over the walls and furniture, getting a sense for where everything was. He wasn't Smiling. Brendon didn't smile much.
I wish he would. He had a nice smile. That didn't matter though. I just tried to not get in his way as he made his way around the space.
"Don't move the furniture." He mumbled. "Please."
"I wasn't planning on it."
"Good." He stopped at the corner of the couch and began counting his steps till he reached the kitchen. "1, 2, 3..."
I didn't want to distract him.
He reached the table and ran his hand over the chair. "How many seats are there?"
"4," I answered.
"This is number 1." He informed me. "They go in clockwise order."
I already knew I would forget.
"Got that?"
"Yeah..."
He nodded and went back to his job. He began going through the kitchen cupboards, learning what was in each.
I was about to sit back and watch TV or something until I heard something fall, and I heard Brendon let out a sigh.
"Hanging pan rack," I informed him as I picked it up. "Don't worry too much."
"Right..." he murmured. "Mom used to keep her pans in a drawer. I didn't realize that people actually used the hanging rack things."
I hung the frying pan back on its hook. "That's alright."
"Anything else I should be weary of?"
"The fridge is double-doored?"
"Huh. Okay."
I led him over. "Left is the freezer, right is the fridge. There's a water dispenser on the left, just here."
"Okay? But what's between the fridge and the pan rack?"
"The oven."
"Is that all?"
"Yep. Then it's all just bench space."
"How much bench space?"
I gently ran his hand along it.
He nodded. "Okay, good to know."
He walked back to his room where his mother had finished setting up his computer. It was a pretty cool setup, I had to admit.
Brendon already seemed to know this room pretty well.
"You all good?" His Mom asked him.
"Yeah, I think so."
"Okay. I'll see you next weekend for family lunch day." She kissed his cheek. "I love you, Brendon."
"I love you too, Mom."
"Stay safe."
"You too."
"Don't do drugs."
Brendon rolled his eyes. "You have no faith in me."
She just chuckled. "Bye honey. I'll come and pick you up next Sunday morning."
"I'll see you then. Bye, Mom."
She gave him one last hug before leaving.
Brendon sat at the desk.
