It was almost like the whole first day was imagined. Some people decided they hated me and wanted to make me miserable.
Venn was quickly becoming my only real friend in this place. It turned out we had a lot in common.
It was nice to have an actual friend though. I really hadn't been talking to Dallon much.
He was always too busy to take my calls.
I had no clue what he was doing.
I ended up just not bothering to call. It was easier for both of us that way.
That lead to me not thinking about him.
Oh well. That just made it easier to focus on hanging out with Venn. We had a lot of fun, we both liked cars and stuff and spent ages talking about them.
"Hey Bren?" He asked.
"Yeah?"
"Wanna go for a swim? I know Pancakes has wanted one. It's a bit cool, but nothing bad."
"Um... yeah, I guess. It should be good as long as I stay in the shallow end?"
"Yeah, that's fine. Do you have swimmers?"
"I don't think so..."
"You can borrow mine? Maybe they'll fit? I don't know."
"Neither." I chuckled. It was weird being friends with another blind person. We joked about it a lot, and we also walked into each other a lot, but that was to be expected I guess.
"Eh, let's try anyway."
I was slowly getting the layout of the house, and I knew the way to Venn's room, my room, the kitchen and the bathroom now.
Venn went through his drawers.
I sat down on the edge of his bed. All the rooms had the same layout, which was good for me, I guess.
He tried to give me the swimming trunks, and kind of shoved them into my chest.
"Well, sorry." He chuckled. "Do they fit?"
"I think so."
"Awesome."
We headed to the pool. Lucky and Pancakes had been getting along well too.
I was getting progressively more nervous. Last time I'd tried to go swimming I'd almost drowned.
Venn just stayed with me in the shallow end though.
"This is nice, I guess." I murmured.
"Yeah, it is.
I ended up floating on my back.
That was relaxing. I just kind of zoned out.
Eventually, one of the helpers came to get us to get ready for dinner.
Life here really didn't seem that bad.
I went and showered and went to the dining room, sitting down in my usual seat while waiting for someone to bring me some food.
Today we had some kind of mild curry.
It was really nice.
Venn was talking to someone else at the table.
At the end of the meal though, someone came to talk to me.
"Hello?" I murmured.
"Hello Brendon. My name is Dr Wayne Gerrand."
"Oh..."
"Will you come with me to my office for a while?"
"W-why?"
