Chapter 14

Daisy returned to her cell from her training happily. Rosalina greeted her on the way in.

"Hello... Daisy.." Rosalina waved. "Glad to see you... Still in one piece.."

"Heheh, yeah. I'm not giving up yet!" Daisy laughed. "It'll be a long while before I give up!"

"Good... But not what I'm referring to..." Rosalina told her. "Remember... Pauline..?"

"Oh, yeah..." Daisy scratched the back of her neck. "Kinda forgot about that..."

"How could you...forget about something so important...?" Rosalina sighed. "Oh well... Are you going to go to... Kaira's fight tomorrow?"

"Yeah, probably. I think just about everyone is. The crowd is going to be packed," Daisy commented. "I'm kinda excited, actually."

"Me too...I'll be right back... I'm going to grab some snacks.." Rosalina stood up. "Don't die while I'm gone.."

She left, hurrying to grab food. As Daisy turned around, a hand covered her mouth and promptly injected her with a needle to the neck- and she fell into unconsciousness.

"Tsk. After all that talk, I really thought Rosalina would've saved you."

"It's time for what you've all been waiting for.... Kaira Reiko, Bloody Murder!"

Daisy groggily awoke to see she was chained to a wall in the arena.

"This time, she must defeat a hundred monsters within forty-five minutes! Yikes! And if she fails to do so... The newbie Daisy, or better known as Tomboy Trouble, will die!"

"Wait, what!?" Daisy snapped awake. "This is so bogus! ...but it's Kaira... She can do it."

Kaira was standing in the middle of the arena, holding her katanas. Her thick hair was pulled back into a tight braid.

"Ready... Set... Go!"

Kaira immediately took off to defeat the first monsters- first, a medium sized piranha plant and a Whomp. She deftly ran behind the whomp and sliced the place it was weakest, and it fell to the ground. She flipped her blades open, making them longer and larger as she easily sliced the Piranha plant. Continuing to run, she cut herself with her blade.

Blood tendrils filled the arena, quickly killing anything her way.

"She's killed 32 monsters! It's been 15 minutes.. Can she do it?"

Daisy watched in worry. Kaira was just under a third in a third of the time. She was wounded, from her careless mistakes in her hurrying. Speed had never been her strongest asset- Kaira had always relied on her own brute force to do the job and not worrying about how fast she did it. That was more of Saiko's job- to work with speed.

Kaira grit her teeth in concentration as a Piranha plant's tendril almost nipped at her, and in response, she threw a dagger at it with dexterity. It pierced it's head, and it fell to the ground.

Daisy watched as Kaira flew across the arena, slaying monsters left and right.

"30 minutes has passed! Kaira has killed 72 monsters! It's looking good for Kaira!"

She was sweating so much. If it weren't for Saiko and saving Daisy, she might've given up a long time ago. But she knew the consequences. She'd lost her right eye for this. She could do it- all for Saiko.

The beasts died almost as quickly as they spawned due to Kaira's quick killing and determination. Her braid had almost come out completely.

"99 monsters killed and seven minutes left! What could be awaiting her?"

Kaira stared in shock at the monster she never thought she'd see again.

In front of her was a giant dragon.

It was blue scaled and it blew flaming red fire.

"The real battle begins now," Pauline purred. "It's been a long time since I've seen this.."

Kaira's breath stopped and she gasped as the tail of the dragon slammed her against the wall of the arena. Falling against the wall, she panted for breath.

I can hardly stand...

"Go Kaira! Go Kaira! G-g-g-ooooooo Kaira! Woohoo!" A familiar voice shouted from the crowd. Kaira looked up and locked eyes with the blue haired female cheering her on.

That's right..if I fail this.. I'll never see her again!

"Go Kaira!" Daisy cheered from her space on the wall. "You can do it! Don't give up! You're the strongest person I know!"

Kaira stood up quickly, her conviction stronger than ever.

Thank you...

Kaira launched herself at the dragon, throwing a cascade of daggers from her jacket. It's sharp edges dug into its scales and it howled in pain. Harsh flames flew from its mouth as it attempted to fly over her head to gain an advantage, but Kaira grabbed a dagger shed stuck into its body and began to climb up it.

Blood from her wounds acted as a whip and promptly snapped the dragon's mouth closed, preventing it from blowing any more flames. As Kaira quickly made her way to its body, it thrashed in an attempt to knock her off.

"A minute left!"

She continued her climb by using the daggers as hand holds and made it to the head. Struggling to stay on its body, she quickly unsheathed her blade and, unleashing a war cry, sliced it's head cleanly off.

The beast fell to the ground, Kaira holding on as tight as she could.

"Kaira kills a hundred monsters with thirty seconds remaining! She's done it!"

Kaira dismounted the beast lightly, light injuries over her body. In response to the whooping and cheering of the crowd, she raised her blade in the air above her head dramatically. Her hair was long since torn from its braid and it hung loose, framing her face.

The cuffs fell off of Daisy and she fell to the ground. Daisy quickly ran to the middle of the arena and smiled, hugging Kaira.

"You did it!" Daisy shouted in happiness. "You did it!"

"Yeah... I did."
