"...Saiko," Kaira hesitated. "...i...I've got a question."

"Sure!" Saiko chirped." What is it, Satsuki?"

"It's... gonna sound bad."

"You think Saiko cares?"

"Fair enough. My question is...Why... why would people not like living here?" Kaira asked, finally. "It's... everything's provided here. It's nice here. I'm even given a chance to fight without consequences. What's so wrong with this?"

"Well... Saiko supposes that the people who don't like fighting are scared of dying," Saiko shrugged. "Death is never a good thought for some people. Some people don't want it to be over. Saiko doesn't want this to end, ever. Saiko just wants it to be her and Kaira, forever."

"Yes, well," Kaira looked away. "I do, too. I just don't understand why anyone would be afraid of death. Death is the promise of relief, and never having to worry ever again."

"Yes, but death also means that Saiko would never see Satsuki ever again," Saiko pointed out. "Some people fear death not for themselves, but for their lovers."

"Oh..."

"Saiko wouldn't want to die," Saiko said softly. "But only because Saiko knows that Saiko's death would mean death for everyone. If Saiko died... Kaira would kill everyone."

"You're not wrong there," Kaira nodded. "Let's just not think about that. Saiko... Saiko's invincible. Bloody Hell is invincible."

"True, true!"

"Did it hurt?"

"U-uh, What?"

"Did it hurt when you fell from the heavens?"

Dixie eyed her boyfriend, Diddy, with amusement.

"That's the cheesiest pickup line I've ever heard," Dixie teased. "Where'd you find that?"

"Heard it off the street," Diddy laughed as the two cuddled on the bed. "It was pretty corny, I will admit. Probably extremely overused, too."

"Well, it was... a good attempt."

"What!? A good attempt!? Give me more credit than that!"

Dixie awoke with a start. It was just a dream... a dream that felt so real.

A dream that made her relive all of the good memories before she got dragged to this place.

Her boyfriend Diddy and her had just gotten settled into their new place...before she was violently ejected from her new home.

I want to go home...

No, that's... a lie.

No, Dixie didn't want to go home. While she had the good memories with Diddy, she also had an overdose of bad memories filled with bullying and discrimination. Here, Dixie was treated with pride.

There was nothing for her at 'home' besides Diddy, and honestly, Dixie was sure that he's moved on by now.

It's been what, three years? There's no way he would've waited for me, especially when I'm never getting out...

Dixie looked over to where her friend Toadette was sleeping contently. Dixie chuckled softly.

I'm happy here, Dixie smiled. I really am.

"Ay, Birdo!"

The secondary warden with the big red bow looked over to Pauline.

"Yes?" Birdo quipped, polishing her ring.

"I was thinking..." Pauline smirked slightly. "Well, what was life like before I came here?"

"Before you came here?" Birdo pondered for a moment. "When Rosalina was still the leader?"

"Yeah."

"Hmm," Birdo paused. "Well..things were a lot more... hectic here. Yeah. But she was very.. peaceful."

"That makes.. no sense."

"Well, she was more peaceful," Birdo explained. "She tried to keep the killings in line. She would've never had Kaira's eye removed or torture. But it was more hectic because Mario and her were always arguing over that. People ran wild because Kaira and Saiko were together and trying to run. Nothing like now."

"Oh. So, all in all, I'm better, right?"

"Yeah, of course."

Pauline smiled to herself. That's all she wanted, to be better than that wench. She already was. She knew that. But she wanted confirmation, and hearing it from the other warden didn't change much since Birdo wouldn't dare say Rosalina was better.

She loved Mario, Mario loved her. Mario wouldn't dare to ever betray her and do what she did to Rosalina. Never.

So why was she still so insecure?

"Hah! Be careful of Pauline, she might kill you!"

Well, that kid hadn't been wrong.

But she just wished that they... hadn't been so mean to her. If they weren't, then she wouldn't need to be so bitchy.

"Y'know, Birdo," Pauline scowled. "What happened in your childhood?"

"Mine?" Birdo thought about it. "Nothing much. Grew up fine. Mario and I are old friends. He asked me if I wanted a job where I'd be well paid. That's how I got here. Nothing happened in my childhood."

"Ah. Lucky you."

"Why? What happened to you?"

"Nothing much," Pauline shrugged. "It could've been worse. My father was just... very expectant. He beat me if I failed his expectations."

"What!?" Birdo gaped. It wasn't what she expected at all from the warden. "Oh-"

"But it's alright," Pauline smirked. "He got what's coming to him. A nice, painful death."
