Chapter Ten

I lived in a cheaply rented apartment, living by myself. My mother and sister were in Busan because she was still in grade 10 and attended a school there.

I had no washing machine, which meant that I had to wash Min Yoongi’s shirt by my bare hands. I changed my clothes, slid into a jumper and tied an apron around my waist. It was time to do washing.

I collected water into a basin, added some detergent and let the shirt soak. After a quick shower, I turned to the laundry I had to do.

His shirt smelt of him. Of course, that had to be expected, anyway it was his shirt.

Stupid me.

Quite to my surprise, it did not reek of sweat. It had a faint scent of a strong men’s cologne. That must have been because he wore it fresh. I always believed that boys were some weird creatures who would smell like rafflesias. The fabric felt soft in my hands as I washed it.

After having done a thorough washing, I hung it out to dry. I wondered if he used fabric conditioner and that was one thing of the lot my apartment lacked. But the shirt smelt of lilacs because my laundry detergent was lilac scented.

I had two days to return the shirt.

Weird indeed, throughout the night I felt his presence in my apartment. The shirt that fluttered in the moonlight was capable to give me goosebumps.

Only if he were here...

I jerked myself awake. I reminded my confused self that Min Yoongi is not a guy to mess with.

He has been the subject of all my resentment, the reason that I had to leave this place once. I was supposed to hate him, not think about him in weird contexts.

He was a playboy too. In morning it was Jisoo, before her, it had been Song Yi. Who knew who would be the next?

The chain only grew. It never stopped.

That was what I heard from the gossip. His kind was the dangerous kind.

Playboys are lethal!

I sanctified my thoughts. I would’t think of useless stuff about him.

In that case, Namjoon or Jungkook would have been the perfect boyfriend I always dreamt about. The only hindrance was that I wanted to wait until I graduated from senior high school.

I shut my eyes. Perhaps tomorrow my thoughts will get less fuzzy.

That was a long night indeed.

To my surprise, the shirt was dry, so I ironed it and folded it nicely and put in a fancy bag. I kind of felt that fancy bag was too touché, but who cares? It is not like I wished to continue the contact with Min Yoongi. This would be fine.

I dressed up and walked towards the school swinging my fancy bag in my hand.
I was unexpectedly greeted by a guy at the gate.

“Long time no see Kris,” Jungkook said.

“I was quite busy with the drama auditions,” I said.

“Did you think about joining the Astronomical Association?”

“I could not think much about it, but the idea interests me. I will join.”

“WOW, finally... YES YES!”

“It is not as if I told you that I would give the whole universe to you.”

“What we know about universe is finite Kris,” Jungkook said as he pointed at the sky. I followed his direction and he was silently for a few fleeting seconds.

“The universe is infinite,” Jungkook said and he stopped abruptly.

Why did this boy seems good for dramas?

“So the universe known to you is finite, but you are capable of expanding your knowledge, which means that if you were to give me the whole universe you might know, that only amounts to the whole universe you know. But the exact size is unknown and it's greater than you and I know.”

Why did he talk in puzzles?

“Emm... Thanks Jungkook. I will not be able to give you the universe, but as a friend, I will always have your back.”

“You never know what you are capable of until you arrive at that crucial point Kris.”

Jungkook patted my shoulder as he went to the Biology section. So I headed for my class.

The cleaning duty was entrusted to A2 class in which Jin was. I could see Jin swinging his broom this way and that on the staircase. I hid behind a wall and watched.

He thrust the broom as if he was acting in an opera.

Baby now I can never fly ...” Jin hummed. I never knew that he was a good vocalist. He hit the high notes perfectly. It was funny to watch as he engaged in a couple dance with the broom as he swept.

Today would be a good day. I felt happy already.

Suddenly he tossed the broom to his left hand and as he lowered that hand down, he kept the broom in a slightly slanted position. He tilted his face and was already going for a fake kiss when my voice brought him to Earth.

“YA! KIM SEOKJIN, what do you think you are doing? You don’t even let a broom live!”

“What were you doing behind the wall?”

“I- I ... I was enchanted with your singing, so I thought of watching you from behind without disturbing you.” I stammered.

“But you should stop abusing brooms. Brooms have rights too.” I tried to establish my point.

“Would you volunteer to be the broom then?” Jin asked keenly. His eyes lit up like stars.

“WHAT THE HELL! Are you off your head?” I yelled at him.

“If so let me and my broom have our time together,” he said.

“Broomance.”

I cut him with that and pouted and made my way to the class.
