Veronica decided to come back home for the holidays. She had moved away since she began University, she promised she'd be home at least three times a month but with her busy schedule she only visited once a month. She felt guilty that she hadn't visited her parents or her friends. Except there was one person she didn't want to run into...Betty.
"Her plane lands in 30 minutes, come on we better leave." Hermione said to Hiram. They grabbed their phones and ordered Smithers to call for their car.
Finally, Veronica arrived, the drive back was nerve racking but exciting at the same time. Veronica did not want to be reminded of her past at Riverdale. It was nearly Christmas which meant the roads were covered in snow, which meant the journey was twice as long.
"Everything okay mija?" Hiram asked.
"Yeah, really long flight that's all." Veronica answered.
"You're very quiet, and that's what you get when you move to England." Hermione added. They pulled up outside their home, Veronica grabbed her suitcase and passed it to Smithers.
"Welcome home Miss Lodge."
"Thank you Smithers." Veronica opened the door and was greeted by a crowd of people.
"SURPRISE!" Veronica jumped, whilst confetti filled the air from the party poppers.
"Welcome Home mija!" Hermione said whilst hugging Veronica.
The party was filled with family and friends which included Archie, Josie, Cheryl and Kevin. But there was no sign of Betty... which give Veronica some relief. The party went on all night, music was played whilst alcohol was being consumed constantly. Veronica was getting dizzy and needed 5 minutes to herself. For some reason being Home was bringing up bad memories. She went outside to cool down. She sighed whilst sitting on her front steps.
"Need space?" A voice said from behind.
"Yeah, I'm just too warm-" Veronica stopped as she realised who was talking.
"Surprise..." Betty said sitting next to her.
"What are you doing here?" Veronica said disappointingly.
"Your mom invited me, she wanted everyone here. She just wants you to be happy when you come home." Betty explained.
"No seriously, why are you out here, right now with me?" Veronica asked.
"Because you're home for the first time in months. I've missed you. I need to talk to you." Betty said.
"You wanna talk then talk..." Veronica said.
"How could you just get up and leave? Without saying goodbye. I know university was around the corner but you left as soon as that offer came." Betty said.
"You're kidding me right?" Veronica started,
"I loved you Betty, and you didn't see it. You would constantly get with other girls, even when I told you I liked you. You rubbed it in my face when you were seeing some girl. And all of a sudden you get upset when I left? I wasn't any good to you anyway!" Veronica yelled."You always want something you can't have! Like me or Archie or Cheryl! Yes I know I was a fool and I should've told you how I felt but I couldn't."
"Then say it, if you mean it, you'll say it now." Veronica said. There was silence and no answer from Betty. Veronica scoffed whilst standing up.
"Veronica wait-"
"No Betty, and anyway you're too late, I've met someone else. She treats me right, she's caring, loving and understanding. Better than you ever were. She doesn't lead me on or send mixed signals. She's mine and I'm hers."
"Veronica wait please." Betty pleaded.
"Like you said Betty... you always want something you can't have."
As Veronica headed for the door Betty grabbed her and cupped her face. She kissed her. Veronica smiled, "That's What I've been waiting for." She smirked.
