"Nana!!" My dad smiled when he saw me walking in the restaurant, "You're here pretty early!"
I went up to my dad, and hugged him, "I thought I should come here to chat with you."
"Of coarse! Let's head to the kitchen!"
When he guided me to the kitchen, I saw at the corner of my eye is a familiar blonde boy wiping the tables. Triston stopped to wipe his forehead with the back of his hand, then saw me, and gave me smile. I responded with a small wave, and continued to walk inside to the kitchen.
"How's living with Lani so far?" My dad took out a seat for me, "Having fun?"
I sat down, nodding, "Definitely."
"Are the friends friendly? Are they being nice to you?"
I can't help but to crack a smile, "Oh yeah, very." My mind flashed to what happened with Calum and me earlier at the pool, "It gets kind of crazy, but they're fun."
"I'm glad that you're having fun with Lani and her friends." My dad patted my back, "Well, want me to whip up some burgers before you leave?"
"Yes please! The usual as always." Lani and I been order the burgers so often that my dad already knows what the usual is.
"It'll take a while, is that okay?" He asked me, and I nodded, "That's fine. I can wait!"
"You can help Triston over there clean up some tables, if you want," My dad suggested, "Just keeping yourself busy."
I shrugged, "Sure. If he doesn't mind."
"Need a hand Tris?!" My dad hollered at him and when I turned around, I see Triston nodding, "Sure thing, sir."
So, I jumped off my seat, and went to Triston, "Hey!"
"Long time no see, shortie." Triston flashed me a grin, "Where you been?"
"Why so curious?" I raised my eyebrows, and he just shrugged, "Curious, that's all."
"Just been busy." I took a towel and started wiping the other table next to him, "How's the double job working out for you?"
"Not so bad." Triston said, "I mean, more work, but more pay."
"That's cool." I nodded.
We stayed quiet for a while till Triston asked me, "Are you Ron's daughter?"
"Yeah, I am." I answered, "That's why I come by here."
"So, you're from Chicago?"
"Yeah, I am." I went to the next table, "Are you born here?"
"Born and raised." He went the table next to me, "So, for what reason a girl from Chicago is doing in the Golden State?"
I sat down on a chair to rest, "Why is Cali boy so curious about this girl from Chicago?"
He sat on the table, and rested his feet on a the chair, shrugging at me, "Can a guy be curious about a girl?"
"With a purpose, yes. So, what is yours?"
He bit his lower lip, "Cause I wanna get to know you."
I chuckled, "That's your purpose?"
"Somewhat." He took off his hat and shook his hair, and started playing with his fingers, staying quiet.
"Huh," I let out, and stood up, "Keep wiping. The faster we finish this, the better. I have to head out soon."
I walked over a different table to continue to work. I really don't feel comfortable of a random guy trying to get "to know me". I'm really not in a mood for some kind of summer romance. I really don't want to get hurt again because of a dumb guy.
