“JENNA?!” Gabe gasped when he first laid eyes on me.

My chest is in pain right now. It’s practically aching. Who would’ve thought that I would bump into Gabe this way? Cause I didn’t see this coming AT ALL. Man, Fate, you really know how to a hit a girl.

“Hey Gabe.” I greeted him, cooly, and I tried really hard not to appear red by taking deep breathes. So, this is what Gabe has been doing. Clingy on another girl while taking sips of beer. Fantastic.

“You know Gabe?” Triston asked me with joy, very oblivious of the tension between Gabe and me and laughed, “FANTASTIC! I knew taking this girl here would be great. What a small world we live in, huh, Jenna?”

I nodded, and gritted my teeth at him, “VERY small.”

I looked at Gabe again, and he’s dumbfounded since his jaw is still hanging.

“Gabe, you okay?” The girl asked him, and I opened my eyes wide, and acted innocent, “Yeah, Gabe, everything okay?”

Gabe blinked, still in shock on what’s going. Oh trust me, buddy, I’m as shock as you are.

“Triston, this is the girl you’ve been telling us about?” Gabe pointed at me as he asked Triston, and he nodded, pulling me closer, “Yeah! She’s cute, huh?”

“Adorable.” Gabe cocked his head back as he scratched the back of his head, and started laughing, “Just adorable.”

“How do you guys know each other?” Triston asked, still very clueless on what’s going on.

“We’re friends.” I answered him, “Friends back in Chicago. Right, Gabe?”

Gabe nodded, still avoiding eye contact with me, “Yeah, just friends. Can I talk to my friend for a bit to catch up? Cause we have A LOT of catching up to do.” Gabe eyes finally landed on me but I felt this sudden anger from him.

“Of coarse!” Triston let me go, and walked towards the cooler, “I’ll get you a beer?”

“Sorry, I don’t drink.” I said to him and Triston nodded, “That’s cool. I’ll get you water.”

“Thanks.” I held the blanket closer to me, as if it’ll be a shield for me because I know Gabe’s “catching up” will be anything but that.

“What the hell are you doing here in LA?” Gabe scowled at me, “I thought you were in Chicago.”

“Welp, you thought wrong.” I sighed, getting frustrated with him. Since when he had a bad boy attitude? Also, this guy reeked of Alcohol.

“How come you never told me you were here?” Gabe asked me softly this time, but the smell of alcohol is disgusting. His puppy image has been thrown out the window.

“Had you ever heard of surprise? Or maybe, none of your business?” I shot at him.

“I’m your boyfriend!!” Gabe said loudly, “OF COARSE IT’S MY BUSINESS.”

“Okay, first,” I said lowly, “Keep your voice down. Don’t want your girl to be suspicious of us. Second of all, we took a break long time ago.”

“Doesn’t matter, Jenna.” Gabe scowled at me, “You lied to me about where you were. So this whole entire time of us webcamming and talking on the phone, you were here in LA and not Chicago?”

“Pretty much.” I shrugged, and he started grin, “Wow, and you are not all phased that you lied to me?”

“Why are you so upset about me lying? I mean, just few seconds ago, you looked pretty cozy with that girl.”

“Tawni? She’s just a friend. What about Triston? You’re on a date.”

“At least I wasn’t smacking my lips on him. Oh yeah, friends kiss each other’s cheeks because that’s how the europeans greet each other but you’re not european so what’s your excuse? Toxication of the alcohol making you tipsy? Had enough drinks?”

“Why are you so mad at me?” Gabe groaned, “I mean, you’re the one who wanted a break! I wanted to get back with you.”

“It’s not that I’m upset about that. Oh no,” I shook my head, fuming on the fact Gabe has been kissing up to me but really, he’s kissing other girls, “Instead, I’m upset the fact you lied to me. I’m not the only one to blame here, Gabe. You were all up on me on how you love me, and want me back. You even got in my case of what I’ve been doing and got all mad because I was too busy for you. When really, you should’ve just left me be, and left me a lone a long time ago so you could screw other girls.”

“Jenna..” He whispered, and gave me his puppy dog eyes but I stopped him by saying, “Gabe. Don’t try to guilt me. Those eyes are not gonna work on me anymore. You told me you love me, and want me back but obviously that’s a lie since you’re cozy with other girls.” I took a deep breathe, and said, “I didn’t want to tell you because I knew if I did, you would want to get back together me if I told you which was true since either way, you wouldn’t stop pestering me about our relationship which is no way of coming back since I’ve seen this side of you.”

“Hold on for a sec-” Gabe pointed at me, but Triston walked up to us and held up a water bottle for me, “Here you go, Jenna.”

“Thanks.” I whispered as I took the water, and looked at Gabe, “Looks like that second can wait.”

Why am I so angry at Gabe you ask? First, the little player told me that he wouldn’t go for any other girls, which I knew was a lie but a part of me actually believed him. Very small part, really, cause it was sweet of him. Second, he said he would wait for me and said he loved me for multiple times. Yeah, I feel the love. Third, I feel utterly shitty about myself because Gabe proved my point of him finding someone better than me. That there’s a  girl out there more amazing and special. He didn’t even tell me about this girl. I don’t blame him, but it would be a nice heads up. What I predicted came true, and who was I kidding? I thought I accepted this feeling of averageness when really, the feeling is making me feel more insecure. So much for waiting for me, huh, Gabe?

The rest of the night was utter crap, honestly. Triston was being super loud since he’s drinking and lost complete interest of talking to me directly. His arm was still clinging over my shoulder, which was annoying cause my shoulders started to ache. It’s not even the cuddle arm around the shoulder. I’m just a arm rest, a support for him so when he does gets tipsy, he’ll have something to hold on to and won’t fall.

“Hey,” Triston finally looked at me directly and smiled, “You’re so quiet.”

I shrugged, and took a sip of water, “Don’t know what to say when people are intoxicated.”

“We’re not THAT drunk!” Triston slurred as he pulled me closer and started hugging me, “You’re so adorable, you know that?”

“Okay,” I wrapped one arm around his waist, and man, he smelled like the Hollister mix with alcohol. There was not only beer at this party, but wine bottles, whiskey, and crap load of other alcohol stuff. It’s ridiculous, honestly. I’m not much of a drinker but I know all these stuff in one hang out is not safe.

“Like,” Triston started to ramble, “When I first saw you, I was kind of scared of talking to you.”

“You seemed fine talking to me though.” I tried to push him, but he held tighter.

“Fine? I was anything but fine. I thought you were so hot. I couldn’t even get my words out of my mouth. I had to talk to your friend to have a conversation with you but you barely spoke to me. I was disappointed.”

“My friend?” I asked him. Okay, I have a bad feeling about this.

“Yeah, what’s her name again?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Triston.” I tried pushing him even more, but Triston held on to me closer and even more tighter, whinning, “NO. I WANT YOU TO STAY WITH ME. I’VE BEEN TRYING TO GET CLOSER TO YOU, BUT IT’S BEEN DIFFICULT BECAUSE I NEVER SEE YOU.”

“Triston!” I pushed him even more, “GET OFF OF ME!”

“NO,” Triston cried, “DON’T LEAVE ME, LANI.”

“WHAT?!” I gasped, “LANI?!” I did not see that coming.

“YOU REMIND ME SO MUCH OF HER, LANI.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You look like her. My ex girlfriend. She left me last month and I can’t get over her. Ever since I saw you, I didn’t know how to approach you. That’s why I wanted to get close to Jenna so I can know you better.”

“Oh my god,” I pushed him and he finally let me go, “You’re drunk, and stupid. Consider this date over.”

I started walking away, but Triston caught up to me, and grabbed my wrist.

“Wait, Jenna.” He pulled me and held my hand with both of his hands, “I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I’m kind of loosing it right now.”

“Kind of is understatement.” I pulled my hand away, “And for you information, Lani haves a boyfriend who knows how to treat better than you ever will. Don’t ever call or text me ever again.”

The face Triston made was priceless. His eyes widened and jaw dropped that formed a wide O shape.

“La-Lani is taken?” Triston whispered and I nodded, “Yeah, so back off or her boyfriend and his friends will kick your ass.” Can the guys really? Just getting surprised attack by a banana frightens them but hey, I’ll make them sound tough Lani’s sake.

“Jenna, look, that was intentions first, but I got to know you better and-” Triston tried to explain to me but I shook my head, “Save it. I already know where I stand in this world so don’t make it worse for me, okay?”

I started walking away till Gabe hollered at me, “Where do you think you’re going?”

I rolled my eyes, and yelled at him, “ANYWHERE BUT HERE.”

“Who will take you?” Triston called out to me, and walked up to me, “I’ll take you to your place.”

“No, you’re drunk. I’d rather be chilled and alive than dead because your recklessness.”

“Jenna, please..” Triston tried to reach out to me, “I’m sorry.”

“You’re apology is irrelevant as your existence so whatever comes out of you mouth means nothing to me.”

Gabe walked up to us and asked, “What’s going on?”

“This idiot used me and lied to me like you did.” I crossed my arm, and walked away.

“At least let me explain!” Triston yelled out again, and Gabe added, “ME TOO!”

“SHUT UP!!” I yelled to them, “FOLLOW ME AND I SHALL TELL MY DAD ON BOTH OF YOU AND YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN.”

Doesn’t sound threatening at all, but Triston will get fired, and he actually does need the job for his college fund and Gabe, well, my dad may have a few things in mind for him. Since Gabe was my first boyfriend, my dad really trusted him and like me, when he’s double crossed or screwed over, the grudge will be unbearable. He’s worse than me. Once he’s angry, it’ll take a crap load of work to get him to feel better or you just have to simply wait for him to cool down, which would take a while. You gotta love family, huh?

“Fuck.” I groaned as I reached the parking lot, and finally had a solid platform to walk on. I sat down on a bench and took out most of the sand inside my shoes, and started to panic. How in the hell am I supposed to get home? Everyone is drunk back there.

I looked at my phone and checked out where the hell am I. Once I got the area that I’m in, I looked through my contacts. Cannot call my parents. They would kill me, and super pissed off at Triston. As much as I hate him at this moment and probably forever, I do have very little sympathy left for him and that’s him keeping his job. I definitely can’t call Lani. Oh how hell would break loose. So, I saw one name in particular that I knew would not help me get out of this toxic area but bring my troubles.

I dialed the number, and prayed to the Lord that the person would answer.

“Jenna?” The person finally answered, “How’s the date going?”

I immediately answered, “I want out of here, Calum. Take me out of here.”

“Woah, woah,” Calum tried to calm me down, “Where are you?”

“I have no idea but I got the address on my phone. Come pick me up and not tell anyone? Especially Lani?”

“Sure, but you do have some explaining to do.”

“I expect that, but I don’t care. I just want to leave.”

“I’m guessing Triston didn’t turn out the way you expected him to be?”

“He’s anything but that.”

Calum started laughing and said, “Alright, CAL PAL TO THE RESCUE!”

“Oh god,” I chuckled, “Are you gonna wear the bright yellow and green outfit and goggles?”

“Not outfit, but I will wear the goggles. It’ll hide my identity.”

“Sure, just hurry you bright yellow green butt here, Cal Pal.”

“HOLD ON MY DAMSEL IN DISTRESS! I SHALL BE THERE TO RESCUE YOU FROM A TERRIBLE NIGHT!”

“Too late for that.” I sighed, but he resorted, “No, the night is still young! Remember what I said to you? I’ll kidnap you and make for it. Techincally this is saving, but either way, I’ll make it for you.”

I smiled, feeling warm on the inside, “Thank you, Calum”

“No problem, Jenna. See you later.”

“See you.”

We hung up and I sent him where was after the phone call. Now it’s time to play the waiting game. The ocean is no help of making it enjoyable. The breeze was actually making me super cold now, and I left the blanket with the drunk lying bastard. I’m in no mood to suck it up and go over there. I shall deal with the breeze and wait for Calum.

Some date night. More like a wrecked night, but hey, a guy actually liking me for me at the start? That is rare to find nowadays.
