We kept running, and I have no idea where Calum is taking me.
“Are we almost there?!” I panted, “This is most running I had ever done all summer long.”
“I promise we’re almost there!” Calum shouted back at me, then stopped, and looked at me, “If you’re getting tired,” he faced his back to me, and bended down, “Climb on.”
“Are you sure?” I hesitated, and he nodded, “I promise I won’t drop you.”
“I find that hard to believe.” I chuckled, and Calum shook his head at me, laughing, “Just hop on!”
Instead of fighting it, I plopped on him, and snuggled my chin on the crook of his neck, smiling, “Ready?”
He nodded, and stood up, saying to me, “Ready!” and he started running.
“Aren’t I heavy?!” I asked him, and he continued running, trying to catch his breathe, “No, this is just a lot of running.”
“Can we just call a cab or something?”
“Now where is the fun if we do that!”
I rolled my eyes, laughing at his ridiculousness. Even though I have no idea what’s going on, I feel at peace for some reason.
When we stopped, I noticed that we’re at a play area which had fun carnival games, and arcade games.
“Woah,” I sighed at the sight of the fun wonderland, “Where did you find this place?”
“To be completely honest,” Calum dropped me down, and rubbed the back his neck, “I had no idea where we were going so I found this on the spot.”
I snapped my head at him, “YOU HAD NO IDEA WHERE YOU WERE GOING, LITERALLY COSTING US TO BE LOST IN THE CITY OF LA?!”
Calum processed it in his head and nodded, “Pretty much.”
“You’re an idiot.” I shook my head at him, and he nudged me, saying the most cheesiest thing ever, “I’m your idiot.”
My cheeks began to burn, and I felt this jolt of excitement in my body.
“Why did you stop here?” I asked him, trying to act cool even though I know I’m red on the outside.
I saw him shrug, “I wanted you to get those idiots out of your head so I thought this would be a great distraction for you.”
When I heard that, I started to smile really big at him, and he smiled back at me. In that moment, I felt the world at peace. As if it’s just us two now, and no one even mattered anymore.
“Also,” He took out his hand, “This counts as a date.”
“Oh really?” I crossed my arms, and he nodded, “Oh yeah. Come on, let’s go be stupid together, and fail at a lot games.”
“You always have a plan for everything,” I grinned as I took his hand, “Don’t you, bass?”
Calum bit his lower lip, and smiled at me, “Only for you, ukulele.”
That’s when my heart began to beat so fast. I haven’t heard him call me that in such a long time. When we started walking together, talking, trying to find something to play, it felt like as if nothing bad ever happened to us. As if this was the beginning, and we just started to become comfortable with each other. This moment right here is probably what Lani feels with Luke when she says that your boyfriend is also your boyfriend. Someone you can feel utterly comfortable with, not afraid to be a total idiot with, and it’s just us two that matters to each other. This is what I’ve been missing out.
