"Emmalyn, are you in here?" you called out, rather loudly. An old lady (supposedly the librarian) who had once been reading a book, vigorously shushed you with a glare. You creased your eyebrows at the sudden remark.

"Geez, sorry..." you muttered under your breath, as you continued to look for your bespectacled friend through the isles of the library. You finally spotted her at the back of the library and took a few careful strides towards where she sat.

You plopped down on the chair beside her, immediately catching her attention.

"(Y/n)? What are you doing here?" she asked with her eyebrows raised. You rolled your eyes.

"Well, I don't what you expected me to do in a village I've never been to before," you reasoned sarcastically, "but if you have any ideas, feel free to let me know!" You ended off with a fake exclamation. Emmalyn just sighed.

"Well then, once you're done being petulant, I'll tell you what I've been doing to help you out over here," she replied in retort. You suddenly grew curious.

"What do you mean?" you questioned. Emmalyn passed you the book she had been reading previously before you had arrived.

"This," she started, "is what I've been reading while you were gone. It's a book about--"

"--Soulmates?" you read out loud while spotting the word on one of the pages, interrupting Emmalyn's speech. "What the heck does this have to do with me?"

"Shh!" you suddenly heard. You made a face. Was that the librarian? Emmalyn evidently clenched her jaw.

"If you'd let me finish..." she hissed. You quickly recoiled at her reaction. She took your silence as an opportunity to continue.

"As I was saying, I've been reading this book, and it talks about thought transferences and extrasensory perception, and even dream telepathy," she explained. You looked at her with a dazed expression written on your face.

"What?" you asked, lurching your head forward to hear her more clearly. Emmalyn took off her glasses and rubbed her temples.

"The 'thing' you and Laurance can do," she snapped unknowingly. Your mouth gaped in understanding.

"Oh..." you responded quietly as Emmalyn slipped her glasses back on.

"Now, this book talks about the many reasons why people are able to communicate through their dreams and thoughts-- otherwise known as dream telepathy and regular telepathy--, but I think there's only one explanation in here that makes the most sense," she said. You bit your bottom lip.

"And, that's the 'soulmate' thing, I presume?" you inquired. Emmalyn nodded. You took all of this in before a question came to mind.

"What is a soulmate?" you asked. Emmalyn thought to herself as she closed her eyes for a moment.

"A soulmate... is the one person that you truly feel a connection with. Someone who you would do absolutely anything for because protecting them is like second nature. Losing them... is like losing apart of yourself," she finished, silence following after her words.

You thought about what Emmalyn said. 'Losing them... is like losing apart of yourself'. That feeling seemed awfully familiar.

Could it possibly be what you've been feeling since you left Phoenix Drop?

...Since you left Laurance?

"That's ridiculous!" you declared a bit too loud, shaking your head in disagreement.

"SHHH!" you heard in the distance. That stupid librarian again... You rolled your eyes before continuing.

"Couldn't there be any other logical explanation? You said there were other reasons as to why people could communicate through thoughts and dreams, right?" you asked hopefully. You didn't want to admit that you were missing Laurance again. It would be a huge damage to your pride.

And if there was something you cherished more than your sword collection, it was your self-adulation.

"Well, yes," Emmalyn started as she flipped through the pages. "But, unless you think having half of your brain inside Laurance's head and vice-versa is a "logical explanation", then why not?" she countered as she casually settled on a page in the book. You shuddered at the idea.

"Never mind..." you muttered. Your stomach suddenly growled. All of this talk was beginning to make you hungry.

"Hey, Em? Can we go get something to eat? I'm starving," you groaned with a heave. A faint 'shh' could be heard from the other side of the library once more. You rolled your eyes.

You weren't even speaking that loud! What was that stupid lady's problem?

Emmalyn looked up from her book and nodded. "Sure. Just help me with those books, please?" Your attention was directed to a small stack of books. You nodded before picking up off the table. They were pretty heavy, but nothing you couldn't handle.

As you followed Emmalyn out the front door, the librarian shot her a smile before glancing at you with a snarl that spoke louder than words. You pursed your lips curtly, ignoring the librarian's cruel stare as followed behind Emmalyn.

Whatever. You weren't planning on coming back here anyway.
