Stupid Expeditions

Laurance's P.O.V:

Shortly after Logan left, he had come back with Dante, lord Levin, Katelyn, Donna, and (Y/n). Once she saw Travis. she quickly ran over to him; engulfing him in a big hug.

"Travis..." she exhaled as he held her in his arms. Travis let out a breathy chuckle.

"(Y/n)! It's been so long. We barely talk anymore," he said. (Y/n) nodded whilst pulling away.

"Yeah. We'll catch up later. But first," (Y/n) turned to look at Aphmau's unconscious figure.

"We need deal with this," she continued. Levin nodded.

"She is right. We need to focus on the task at hand. Could you possibly give us a walk-through of your day within the last ten minutes?" he asked. Travis nodded.

"I-I was walking through the woods to clear out my head. As I neared closer to Old Phoenix Drop, I spotted somebody on the ground and quickly ran to them. It only took me a few seconds to figure out that it was Aphmau." Katelyn examined Aphmau's body on the ground before coming up from behind me.

"And are you sure you didn't see any evidence of who might've done this?" she asked firmly. Travis looked into her eyes and shook his head.

"No Katelyn..." he spoke softly. Katelyn's resolve nearly crumbled before she shook her head and took a step back. She whispered into my ear.

"H-he's innocent..." I smirked.

"Mhmm..." I responded. Katelyn glared at me before smacking my arm. (Y/n) looked to the ground in thought before inhaling and exhaling deeply.

"I think I may know the reason behind this," she spoke. I rose an eyebrow. At that moment, the thought hit me.

Mini Flashback~~

"(Y/n)! What are you doing here? Are you okay? Where's Aphmau? What about Gene?" I asked, question upon question kept spilling out. (Y/n) just hugged me.

"I'm fine. Aphmau turned into this... divine... thing, though. I remember Emmalyn telling me about her divine form. Last I saw, Gene and Aphmau were about to go head to head," she finished. She then rubbed her side.

Flashback ended~~

"We forgot all about Aphmau when (Y/n) was injured," I said out loud. (Y/n) nodded grimly.

"Yes. I thought she would've been capable of fighting Gene. At least fleeing from his power would've been ideal." She turned to everyone else.

"Now, we don't know where Gene is. Finding Aphmau on the ground unconscious tells us something," she reasoned. I knew where she was going with this. Katelyn gazed at Aphmau's unconscious figure one more time before uttering a few more words.

"Get ready for another expedition. We're going to find an island for the Phoenix Alliance," she declared. Logan gasped.

"Are you serious? That could take a really long time! I mean, don't you think this is going a bit too far?"

"That's why we are going to leave Phoenix Drop by tomorrow. Some of us will stay here to protect the village," Levin interrupted. "While some of us will come along on the expedition."

Katelyn looked towards Dante, then turned again to face me. "Laurance and Dante? I need the two of you to stay here. I believe the village is in better hands if two of the best guards are watching it. Do I make myself clear?" I hesitantly nodded. I didn't want to leave (Y/n). Especially with what was going on. I glanced over at her. She gave me a reassuring smile before nodding.

'I'll be fine' I heard. 'And you'll be fine. Don't worry too much about it, okay?'

I smiled. It was as if she could read my mind.

Once Katelyn and Levin had spoken to us about the major highlights of tomorrow, we were all dismissed. (Y/n) walked over to me and leaned her head on my chest. She sighed.

"I'm so tired," she groaned. I chuckled and wrapped my arms around her waist as the two of us walked in the direction of our house.

"Then when we get home, you can sleep," I justified. (Y/n) shook her head and yawned. She was just adorable. But I knew that if I ever said that to her face, she'd be pretty upset.

"I can't," she said. "I have to go check on Aphmau along with Donna. It's the least I can do for leaving Aphmau to fend for herself earlier. I just thought she could handle Gene..." (Y/n) trailed off. I pulled (Y/n) closer to me as I felt her shiver beneath my grasp. The Fall air was turning more crisp and cold as the days went by. Winter was coming.

"(Y/n), it's not your fault. You were panicking and you were hurt. You only did what a normal person would do in a situation like that," I reasoned. (Y/n) huffed.

"Laurance, would you leave your comrade to face the wrath of an evil being, and run away for the sake of yourself?" she asked. I looked to the side and sighed (A/N: lol!!).

"No," I replied as we had finally gotten to the house. (Y/n) opened the door and I followed close behind her.

"See! That's exactly what I did. And I feel horrible! Therefore, I shall go see her in about twenty minutes," she sniffed cockily while checking the analog clock that hung on the wall. I rolled my eyes and smirked.  My eyes trailed (Y/n) as she dropped herself onto the couch lazily. I proceeded to lie down horizontally on the couch, making her sit on my torso. She rested her head on my chest.

"We need a break," (Y/n) justified. I hummed in response. She was right. We really did need a break. All this while, we'd been bustling around everywhere; and we'd barely gotten time to have a proper break. I made a mental note to take (Y/n) somewhere once the expedition was done. Somewhere peaceful.

After about twenty minutes in each other's embrace, it was time for (Y/n) to visit Aphmau. I didn't want her to leave, and neither did she.

"Ugh... I'll be back soon," she sighed. I nodded my head and walked her to the front door. Before she could leave, I lightly grabbed her waist and spun her around to give her a hug.

"I love you," I whispered into her ear. (Y/n) hugged back.

"I love you too Laurance. I'll see you later," she smiled weakly. I could tell that she was really tired. I leaned in to give her a quick peck before she dashed off. I smiled to myself.

If only the past twenty minutes could last forever...
