Your P.O.V:
"Dad? Where are you and Nicole going? Can you take me with you?" I asked eagerly. My father looked at me with sad eyes.
"Honey look, I'm sorry but... I can't take you with me," he reasoned. I started to grow upset.
"B-but why?!" I cried. My father put a calming hand on my shoulder.
"Your mother wants you to stay here with her in Vana'diel. I wish I could take you with me," he explained. I started to pout as my father engulfed me in a big hug.
"I'll miss you girly," he whispered in my ear. I could hear quiet sobs coming from him.
"Well," he breathed out. "I guess Nicole and I have to get going. I'm sorry I can't take you with me (Y/n). I really want to but..." father trailed off. This got me especially mad.
"But what?!" I asked impatiently. I watched as my father's eyes teared up.
"You'll understand when you get older, (Y/n). Now, I have to go," he finished as he turned away to dock the incoming boat. I scanned the area for my sister. I just needed to see her one more time.
"(Y/n)!" I heard a voice call. I turned to the direction of the voice, and was face to face with Nicole.
"I'm gonna miss you so much," she whispered. "I'm gonna miss you, and our horse," Nicole orated. I let out a forced laugh. Nicole held my hands.
"Do you understand why dad has to take me to a new island and not you?" Nicole asked. I shook my head. If I said 'no', I would start to cry.
And crying makes me seem weak.
"Well, I don't either," Nicole confessed. "But, I know it's for a good reason. Dad and mom won't just break us apart for nothing," Nicole reasoned. I looked at the ground and spoke quietly; barely above a whisper.
"Promise you'll write to me?" I asked. Nicole smiled.
"I'll try my absolute best!" She exclaimed. I smiled the smallest bit.
"Nicole, honey!" I heard my mother cry. The both of us turned to her.
"Mom," Nicole replied, as she hugged our mother. Our mother hugged back.
"I'm gonna miss you so much," she stated. Nicole silently nodded before pulling away.
"I still have twenty more minutes to spare with (Y/n). Is it okay if we could go to the nearby forest?" Nicole questioned. Our mother nodded before we set off to the empty clearing.
Twenty more minutes was all we had. I thought. And that's when my first tear escaped that day.
"(Y/n)?" I heard a voice call. I opened my eyes. My hands instinctively went up to feel my face.
Tears.
I quickly wiped them away and looked up at the direction of the voice.
"O-oh! H-hey Laurance," I stuttered out; embarrassed that he had seen me crying. Laurance didn't smile.
"Hey, what happened? I heard you crying from downstairs," Laurance replied. I tried to change the subject.
"Downstairs? W-what were you doing downstairs?" I asked. Laurance wasn't fazed one bit.
