Emmalyn's P.O.V:

"Emmalyn!" (Y/n)'s voice rang out proudly, disturbing my thoughts. I looked at her ungraciously, my eyes tired and my voice groggy. I almost sneered at her happiness.

"It seems the one day you're optimistic, I happen to have not gotten enough sleep the previous night," I commented with the shake of my head, eyeing the old librarian. She seemed to be scolding (Y/n) with her fiery glare.

(Y/n) raised a brow curiously. "Why didn't you sleep well?" she asked. "The beds were actually comfortable last night."

"Yes, they were," I said, reminding myself of how desperately I needed sleep. "But I had gotten caught up reading the book I'd showed you yesterday...the one about the soulmates?" (Y/n) nodded her head with a shrug.

"Okay, then...?" she started awkwardly. "That's your fault, then--"

"No!" I cut in harshly, earning a vigorous 'hush' from the librarian. I clenched my jaw tightly.

"Geez, are librarians always this annoying?" I muttered under my breath. (Y/n) paused and looked at me for a moment; opening her mouth to say something, then shut it. I sighed.

"Where were you last night, (Y/n)?" I asked tiredly. (Y/n) raised a brow, seemingly confused.

"Um...in my bed?" she replied questioningly. I shook my head.

The previous night, I had been researching a bit more into the "soulmates" topic, hoping I could find some credible information. After hours of staying awake after dark, I finally decided that it'd been way too late to continue.

But just as I had gotten ready for bed, there had been a sharp flare of colour that went as quickly as it came. It had come from the direction of (Y/n)'s bed. Once I had turned my head, she just...disappeared!

"Disappeared?" (Y/n) asked in amusement after I finished telling her my story. I rolled my eyes.

"That was my reaction as well! I went out to see if you had gone for some fresh air, or perhaps I had just been imagining things..." I shook my head. "But I know what I saw! You just...disappeared!" (Y/n) eyed me suspiciously.

"Well," she started. "I was asleep the whole night," she said. Then she froze slightly as if to recall a past event.

"Dreaming," she added before looking down at her fingers and fiddling with them. Now it was my turn to eye her suspiciously.

"But do you want to know what was really weird?" I asked, still keeping an eye on her. (Y/n) looked up at me

"Right after searching for you, I decided to stop and get some rest because it was just about daybreak. But when I got back to the inn, you were back in bed..." I cut myself off, running a hand through my hair, "fast asleep!" (Y/n) kept silent for a while. Although, the silence spoke volumes. Something must have definitely happened last night that she wasn't telling me about.

"That's... that's weird," she started. "Perhaps you were just hallucinating? You had been reading all night, right?" she asked, chuckling awkwardly. Although, her eyes refused to meet my own. I observed her curiously.

"(Y/n)?" I asked. She simply looked up at me, still fiddling with her fingers. My eyebrows creased.

"Did something happen last night that you're not telling me about?" I asked. "You're already acting so...strange." I paused for a bit. "And happy. You're almost never happy." (Y/n) shrugged before standing up, a faint smile on her lips.
