"Thanks, Travis! I owe you one!" you exclaimed in a hurry before shutting the door behind you, tugging at Emmalyn's arm while proceeding forward. She snorted.

"I'm sure you owe Travis more than just 'one'," she reasoned, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose once they began to fall. "Do you even pay the poor man?" You slowed down once the two of you were at the heart of the island---the village square. You still couldn't fathom how all of you were able to work together and get this much done in the span of three months.

It was all so incredible.

You smiled, knowing that years down the line, you'd look back at this island and remember the three months of hard work that it took to get this village running, along with the others who contributed to its development.

"Of course I pay Travis," you began in a matter-of-fact tone. "With kindness, love, and friendship!" Emmalyn rolled her eyes, smirking in the process.

"Kindness? Just this morning, you swore at him for cutting the extra loaf of bread 'the wrong way'," Emmalyn chided. "Is that your idea of kindness?" You paused for a moment, contemplating how you could diffuse her side of the argument.

"You're completely disregarding the other things I pay him with," you reasoned, crossing your arms just as the two of you turned a corner. "I swore at him with love because he's my friend." Emmalyn's eyebrows creased as she raised her hands up in exasperation.

"That gives you less of a right to do so!" You put a finger to your lips in an attempt to shut her up. You pulled her behind an empty, half-built merchant stand, crouching just behind the crates. Emmalyn yelped.

"W-Wha---?"

"Shh!"

The blonde lady sighed before resuming her question with a whisper. "What in Irene's name are we doing behind these crates?" You looked forward, peaking just above the crate and pointing forward meticulously, the corners of your eyes creased in concentration.

"Look, it's Aphmau and Lucinda..." You watched as their mouths moved; both of them deeply invested in their conversation. You tried to make out what they were saying as they continued to walk past your hiding spot and soon, out of view. You groaned in annoyance. "Well, how unfortunate..." Emmalyn drawled uncharacteristically, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest. "Are we done now?" You stood up with a huff, pursing your lips together in frustration in response to Emmalyn's uncharacteristic stubbornness.

Oh, you could really use a punching bag at the moment...

"There she is!" you whispered, keeping a keen eye on Aphmau's form as she waved Lucinda farewell just outside her giant tower.

Yes, Lucinda had her own tower.

You thought it was rather unfair, to be honest. This woman had a whole tower to herself and you didn't?! You envied Lucinda for that (as well as her looks, but that was an insecurity you'd never disclose to anyone). To make your envy worsen, you'd found out that the tower she'd built had been done purely by herself.

With the help of magic, of course.

But her ability was nonetheless, admirable.

You peaked from behind the half-built library that resided a few metres in distance away from Lucinda's abode, pressing your back against the stone wall. You watched as Aphmau walked away from your desired destination. You let out a breath of relief once Aphmau was far enough, slumping against the stone.

"I'm starting to think that from now on, anytime you tell me something, I should just nod my head in agreement and shut up," Emmalyn reasoned, her left shoulder pressed against your right. "Because then, I wouldn't have to tag along on one of your wild goose chases." Your eyes widened and you turned your body to face Emmalyn's frowning form.
