Stepping into a portal had been nothing like Travis described. When you stepped into the mass of blue hazes and swirls, you felt rather sick. Perhaps it'd been out of excitement? Or worry?
Fear?
You will admit that the idea of stepping into a portal had scared you quite a bit, as you'd never done such a thing before.
When would you have ever gotten the chance?
You remember finding a Nether portal once when you were very small---both you and Nicole---on the island in which you grew up in. It hadn't been activated, but the two of you were determined to do so---what did your five-year-old minds have to lose?
But the odds weren't in your favour that day, as your mother had found out what you and Nicole had been up to. She'd warned you two of the dangers associated with stepping into a portal.
That discussion had been enough for you to stay away from portals for the next 15 years.
Upon such digression, the portal. It was a rather unpleasant experience if you had to say so yourself. While you considered the immense excitement you had felt prior to stepping inside, you also considered the nausea that built up in your stomach just moments after.
"Ouch!"
And the fall.
"My Irene, ow."
Yup, can't forget that fall.
"Are you okay, (Y/n)?" Katelyn's voice inquired as she crouched in front of you, her knees bent and eyes gleaming with amusement. You grumbled, ignoring her outstretched hand and peeling yourself off the dirt, clicking your tongue in distaste.
"Do I look okay to you---OW!" you suddenly whined when you backed into a couple of prickly bushes, tangling your meif'wa tail* with a few branches. "Stupid bushes..." you muttered, rubbing your backside. Emmalyn's laughter rang out.
"I don't think Phoenix Drop is happy to see you," she commented with a giggle. "She didn't miss you nor your vulgar language." You scoffed, crossing your arms.
"Well, tell Phoenix Drop that I don't give two---"
"Language!"
"---rabbit hides," you finished, glaring at Emmalyn. "See? Didn't swear." Emmalyn rolled her eyes, shaking her head in disappointment.
A yelp coming from the direction of the portal forced your attention's hand. Looking back, you watched as Lucinda tumbled out ungracefully, landing on her stomach much like you had. You cringed.
"What did this portal just do? Chew me and spit me out?" Lucinda remarked, throwing her hands in the air. You chuckled, walking back to give her a hand.
"That was...strangely well-said." Lucinda gave a small smile of gratitude before turning back to the portal, ready to deactivate it.
"So now, it's only Travis and Aphmau on the island," Katelyn stated affirmatively with her hands on her hips.
"And Valerie," you added. Can't forget the baby. Katelyn nodded before repeating the same thing.
"Do you think they'll be okay?" Emmalyn questioned, a hint of worry in her voice. "If whoever---or whatever---took Aaron, couldn't it take them as well?"
"Travis is with Aphmau and Valerie," Katelyn reassured. "I...trust him to protect the both of them. I have no doubt in his ability to keep the girls safe." You raised a brow at her sincerity. You almost wanted to ask her if she...liked Travis. And if not, why talk of him in such a manner when everyone thought she despised him?
