Laurance's 2nd Person P.O.V:

Laurance's jaw went slack as he watched the door close behind Logan with a slam. He sighed in exasperation before glancing at Michi's cell. She still sat in the corner of the dungeon, her head wedged in her arms. Her legs pulled up close to her.

Laurance almost felt sorry for her. Perhaps she'd regretted everything she'd done? Maybe she'd ruminated every mistake she'd made till this point? Vulnerability was a stage of acceptance, right?

Laurance got up from his chair and placed his new sword on the table. He stared at it for a moment. '(Y/n) is going to freak out when she finds out I've been using her swords,' he thought. Taking his gaze away from the weapon, Laurance glanced back at the purple-haired meif'wa.

"So," he started, cutting through the raw quietness. "How have you...been doing?" Laurance cringed. What was he doing? Was he seriously doing this? Striking up a conversation with one of the few people on Earth that made him furious.

And why start with a sentence like,"how have you been doing?"? What was he thinking?

Laurance heard a small snort-like sound. A muffled voice followed after. "How have I been doing?" she asked. She chuckled bitterly. Her usually high-pitched voice sounded grim and low. She lifted her head slightly, not too much, but it was just enough for Laurance to see her cheeks that were streaked with tears. Laurance's stomach twisted.

'You did that,' a voice in his head whispered. 'You're the reason she's crying.'

Would you have done that to (Y/n)?

'No,' Laurance thought. 'Never.'

Michi turned to observe Laurance's expression. She shook her head slowly. "What in Irene's name are you thinking?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "No matter how many times I look at you, I just can't seem to understand you."

Laurance raised a curious brow. "What do you mean?" he asked, pushing all of his former thoughts out of his head.

Michi smiled weakly. "You look handsome today," she commented, her voice soft and trying to swiftly change the subject. Laurance grew more confused.

She still hadn't answered his question.

"Please, get to the point, Michi," he replied.

"Wow," Michi deadpanned. "Not even a thank you?" She huffed. "I don't compliment a lot of people. So you should be grateful." Laurance blinked, his face blank. He didn't respond. Michi's weak smile faded before she turned her head to look down at her hands.

After a moment of silence, Laurance asked, "why did you do it?" Michi glanced at him again.

"Why did I do what?"

"Everything. Every single thing you've done up until this point. From capturing (Y/n) and sending her to be forced into marriage. Finding Aphmau and I and handing us into the Southern wolf tribe..." Laurance watched as Michi flinched slightly. He continued.

"Why did you scratch (Y/n) when we both came to interrogate you?" Michi didn't reply.

"Why was it your first instinct to talk foully about (Y/n) when I visited you last..." he pressed on, narrowing his eyes. "You could've talked about anyone else...but why her?" A faint growl escaped Michi's lips.

"Was it because you knew she was important to me? You knew that the best way to attack me was through the people I love?" Laurance's breath hitched as he spoke the last few words. He watched Michi's facial expression contort into one of hurt, then fear, and pain.
