Modern AU. Reader and Jean are co-workers. Female!Reader for this one, sorry.
-------------------------------------------Your fingers tapped on the keyboard, words appearing on the screen in front of you. Red painted your lips, going well with your white blouse, black pencil skirt and black heels. The person sitting next to you was your favorite co-worker, Jean Kirstein.
"Listen up please," your boss, Ymir, began, "we have a new addition to our company. His name is Jacob Moody." You remembered her mentioning that her girlfriend wanted her to be more polite. A red-haired male caught your attention.
"Uh, hi." He smiled at everyone. "I'm excited to work with you all." He looked at you and winked. Your brows furrowed as you became confused. He winked at you?
You gave him a polite smile and went back to your computer, typing on the keyboard. Jean scoffed. You looked at him and raised a brow. "What's up?" You asked.
"Uh, nothing." He said.
"Jean, I consider you my best friend here. I may not know you too much outside of work -- since we've only hung out a few times -- but I know friends don't usually keep secrets. So, please tell me." You replied, not believing him.
"I consider you my best friend here, too. If it were something serious, I'd tell you, okay?" He gave you a small smile.
"Okay." You nodded, returning the gesture of a small smile. You were about to resume typing, but you were interrupted by someone.
"Excuse me," the new voice began. You looked up and saw the new co-worker, Jacob. "Do you have a pen?"
"You need a pen to type?" You raised your eyebrows, a light smile appearing on your face.
"Oh, r-right, sorry." His pale cheeks had a pink tint to them. "I'm Jacob."
"I'm (y/n)." You replied. "Do you need help with anything else?" You were trying to be nice to him.
"No, I'm sorry, it's just-- You're really pretty." He said.
"Thanks." You heard Jean sigh. "That's very kind of you to say."
"Yeah, so, I was wondering if you would want to go out sometime."
"Um," you didn't know anything about him. You didn't even feel an immediate connection. "I'm busy with work right now, I don't know if I have time for dating. When I was new here, I wanted to take some time getting settled in before I started getting into my personal life. Ymir will probably work you hard."
"Yeah, you're right." He nodded. "Maybe some other time, like you said."
"Hey! You're Jacob, right?" A brunette asked him, obviously interested in getting to know him. He smiled at her and nodded.
"Yeah, that's me." Jacob said. "What's your name?"
"Shallene." She answered. "After work, I could show you around town if you'd like?"
"Uh, sure." He grinned. He went back to his desk. You realized he didn't want you, he just wanted a girlfriend, any girlfriend. But, you hoped things worked out for them.
You heard Jean take a deep breath and let it out. "Jean," you began, "please tell me what's wrong."
"It doesn't involve you."
"Are you sure about that?" You asked. "I don't like sticking my nose in someone's business, but you only sighed when I was talking to. . ." You trailed off as you realized what was happening. Your brows furrowed as you tried to figure out if he was really jealous. It could have been your imagination.
"What?" He asked. You didn't know what to say to him, but you quickly thought of something.
"Hm?" You went back to your keyboard.
"You didn't finish your sentence." He explained, looking at you.
You stared at your computer screen as you kept typing. "Oh, sorry, I just, uh, decided to give you some space. I didn't mean to pry."
"It's okay, (y/n), really." He told you.
"Yeah?" You glanced at him.
"Yeah." He smiled. "Don't worry about it. I'd tell you, trust me."
"Okay." You nodded, but you couldn't ignore the possibility that he was jealous.
"(l/n), Kirstein," Ymir began as she walked towards your desk. "Uh, do you mind closing the place?"
"No, not at all." You replied. "I have to get some extra work done anyway." Jean nodded in agreement.
"Great. I'll give you the key before I leave."
--
You finished up your project. You looked at Jean to find him staring at you. "What?" You asked.
"Hm?" He replied.
"You're staring at me, Jean." You sighed. "You've been acting weird today and I don't appreciate it."
"I have not been acting weird." Jean said.
"Skip the fake part and just tell me. You know it, I know it." You were angry at him.
"Fine." Jean sighed. "I'm a bit jealous."
"But, why?" You asked. Your eyes widened as you realized the answer. "You like me?"
"Yeah." Jean replied.
"Oh." You had always found yourself wondering what it would be like to date Jean. You were attracted to him and you did like him. "I like you, too."
"You do?" His eyes widened.
"Yes." You smiled.
"Do you want to go on a date?"
"Yeah." You nodded. "When?"
"How about right now?" He suggested. "It's time to close the place."
You grinned. "Right now works." You grabbed your bag and followed Jean out of the building, locking it behind you.
You were happy Jacob hit on you. Because, that made Jean tell you his feelings. But, if he hit on you again, you would definitely let Jacob know that you had a boyfriend. You were happy.
