I'm Tired of Feeling Like I'm Crazy

“What the fuck?” Ed shouts at Oscar. His hand pressing to his burning cheek. Blood dripping from his lip. The girl he sang with – Nadia or something – goes to comfort him as Ed shouts obscenities.

“Don’t talk to her like that!”

“Like what?” Ed says, trying to hold back his anger. “Saying I don’t have feelings anymore? You should be happy! You can have her.”

“I already have her. You’re just a worthless prick!” Oscar shoots back.

I’ve known Ed for years. He’s a peacemaker. Far as I know; he hates fighting, and would rather talk things out. While we’ve had our arguments, he was usually civil.

It happens so fast my head spins. Ed snaps back full force. His fist cocked and ready for aim. Smashing against Oscar’s nose. Blood splats against the black tile. A tiny scream dropping from my mouth, my hand covering my own face. The blonde throws herself in front of Ed immediately.

“Ed, stop!” she shrieks. He doesn’t have the power to stop. His body is reacting quickly. Instead of pushing her out of the way, he swiftly moves past her. His bloody hands colliding with Oscar’s shoulders, pushing him back until he stumbles and almost falls. Ed’s fists reconnecting with his jaw.

You know in the old cartoons when two people fought and a cloud of dust would surround them. You’d only see fists flying and feet kicking, but nothing else. That’s what it looked like from my point of view. Everything shadowed but their fists and feet.

Ed was gone. His piece of mind disappeared. The civil person he was dispersed and was replaced by an angry, bloody bastard.

I never witnessed a fight before. People at school fought, but I never saw one right up close. I couldn’t tell who was “winning” but I considered everything and Ed appeared to be winning.

I was frozen from shock.

“Nina,” Another girl says to the blonde. “Let’s leave!”

Her name was Nina, I guess. It fit her.

Nina doesn’t listen. I can tell she’s stubborn by just looking at her. Trying again, she pounces back in the middle of the two guys and pushes Ed forcefully away from Oscar. “Stop!” She cries. “Just stop.”

And he finally calmed down slightly. Oscar wiped

“You don’t get to fucking ruin this for her!” Ed screams at Oscar. It was directed for both of us. Yet, when you’re fumed like he is, it wouldn’t look good to be yelling at pregnant women.

“Ed,” Nina says. And I feel sorry for even starting shit with her before. She seemed young. Too young to be in this mess. “It’s okay.”

“No! It’s not okay!”

He couldn’t calm down. Usually Ed had these fits when he cried. Not that he cried in front of me often. When we lost the baby, he wouldn’t quit. Not that I would either. Now, the anger wouldn’t leave him.

Ed had fire in his eyes, “It’s not okay.” As he tried to pull himself together, he just couldn’t. He threw himself back at Oscar. Pulling his elbow back, Oscar’s ready for another blow from Ed, but it doesn’t come. Ed’s fist shook as he slowly lowered his arm.

Ed pushed Oscar away with force.

“You started it by coming here.” Oscar yelled.

I looked around to see if any cameras were anywhere. Any paparazzi ready to tell all. None. Only hopeless bystanders that didn’t care.
