And when we go crashing down, we come back every time, 'cause we never go out of style - Taylor SwiftShe slipped on my black hoodie on and it almost touched her kneecaps. I couldn’t help the bellowed laugh that fell from my lips. She pushed her hair back and pulled the hood up. “You look like an Eskimo.” I jested.
“It is freezing. It’ll keep me warm as we walk.”
I raised my eyebrows at her. Locking the door behind us. “We’re walking?”
“You said everything is in walking distance.” She said.
“Nina, it is cold out.”
“So? It will be great exercise.” She says. I wanted to tell her that walking right now was stupid. That she didn’t need to exercise. Instead, I ran down the stairs after her. Briskly, entering the cold with bravery.
She wasn’t lying. The air bit through my jacket instantly and I wanted to offer the car one more time. So badly. But I didn’t.
“We could grab some chips.” I suggested. Eyeing a nice, warm diner on the corner across the street. She shook her head. No, she said, we had those last night. We kept walking.
“All right.” Nina announces, walking backwards ahead of me. “Let’s play a game.”
I was fighting the cold.
“What game?”
“The question game!”
“Asking each other questions, huh?”
“Correct!”
“That is-“
“Shut up and ask me a question!” She shoved me.
“Favorite color?” I asked her without thinking. Honestly, it was a thoughtless question I already knew the answer. It was pink, like Alice. Then, I tried to clear my head after thinking of my ex-lover and focused on Nina.
All I needed was her.
“Boring!” she shouts, but smiles. “Black because it’s the color of my heart! Just kidding… Maybe because it’s slimming. I also like pink or blue. Blue because of your eyes.”
“Like my eyes?”
She nodded, “The only reason.” She bumped my shoulders with hers and sped her walking. Moving with perfect grace. Cheeks rosy and lips chapped. “If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?”
“Eminem.” I answered immediately, then shook my head. “Wait, no, Damien Rice.”
“I love him. He’s so amazing.”
“Are you being sarcastic?”
She looked up at me, squeezed my hand, and said, “Not at all.”
“Nina, why do you bleach your hair?”
“I look better with blonde hair. Don’t you agree?”
I thought she looked great with both, but I nodded. Easier to agree than disagree. I didn’t want to fight with her.
“Who motivates you to keep writing?” Nina said, but stopped herself and reworded it. “Who gives you the inspiration to write all your songs?”
“You.” I joked.
She shook her head, “Before me.”
“My ex…” I said, sucking in a deep breath before saying her name nonchalantly.
