Emma's Pov
𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟖𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟔College so far was easy, but I didn't want to get my hopes up too late. Today was my first day attending, and already I had an essay due next week, but I knew if I just kept focus on it, I could get it done before the end of this week. Maybe it was a good thing to have an essay this week. I hope it kept my mind far from almost being killed by a vampire army. The whole week I had been trying to forget, but every little sound caused me to jump now in days.
I took a deep breath seeing my house come into full view. I couldn't wait to take a soaking hot shower before needing to hike with Jacob to the mountainside. I could sense my anxiety was going to be horrible in the moments of running far from the battle grounds. I parked the car on the side only to see Alice coming out of the house, smiling and even cracking some jokes with Charlie.
" What the hell ?" I asked myself grabbing my bag from the passenger side and leaving the truck, hearing Alice's angelic laugh at whatever my father had said.
" Okay, Alice. Don't be a stranger." Charlie laughed.
" Okay." Alice laughed back before Charlie walked inside, leaving Alice to speak to me. She turned flashing her perfect teeth and skipping down the trail." Hello Em."
I couldn't even hide the frown on my face." Hey Alice. What brings you around ?"
" Your alibi for the battle is all arranged."
" Really?"
Alice laughed." I told your father that our whole family's going camping this weekend. So you, Bella, and I are having a sleepover at my house. Charlie is going fishing anyway."
It was my turn to laugh, hearing Alice's idea. Fishing was truly the only way for him to leave Forks and his job, but what got me was a sleepover." Sleepover? Bella hates sleepovers."
Alice nodded slowly before looking down at her shoes a bit gitty." Actually, you and Edward will have the house to yourself tonight." She answered. I felt the smile fade from my face at the idea of Edward and I being alone. I spent most of my days with him, but we never had a real moment alone. His family or even Charlie and Bella were always in close distance.
" We're all going hunting, powering up for the battle, and Bella is going to Jake's. You're welcome." She sang towards the end before skipping away towards her car. I felt the butterflies in my stomach, but walked up the porch knowing standing in the rain was going to do nothing, but get me sick.
I hung my coat on the rack hoping the shock had died down enough to not alarm Bella and Charlie." Hey." I called out walking towards the kitchen seeing Bella making sandwiches while Dad leaned on his chair reading the newspaper." Little snack?"
" Do you want a sandwich?" Bella asked.
" No, I'm good," I answered, placing my backpack on the chair next to me. Dad flipped the page of his newspaper before taking a glance at me, a gleam of pleasure in his face.
" Well, the sister...I like."
" Dad," Bella warned before laughing at Dad's attics.
I also laughed before seeing underneath one of the shelves was a dusty frame of Dad and Mom's wedding. I never understood why he still kept photos like it. When there was no love left to hold onto.
" Hey, Dad." I started." I was wondering...Why didn't you get remarried, after Mom ?"
" I don't know." Dad answered quickly." Guess I still haven't met the right gal. Why ?"
" I don't know. I thought you just..." I hesitated. I knew my words could open a wound and I was afraid it would open far too much for any of us to handle." Maybe you gave up on the whole institution of it. Of marriage. But do you think there's any value in it?"
