Chapter Thirty Five: Intruder Attack

Third person pov
𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟖𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟔

By the time Emma and Bella had gotten home, it was late. It was very dark out with the only lights showing was the moon and headlights. Emma found it a bit odd seeing no house lights on and streetlights." Do you find it odd no lights are on ?"

" You read my mind. Maybe people are sleeping and so is the electric company." Bella said hearing Emma laugh. They pulled into their own house seeing the lights off also and Charlie's cop car not in the driveway.

" Dad's not home."

" That's weird. Maybe he got pulled into the office." Bella said unlocking the door. Emma yawned and went to turn the lights on when they wouldn't even budge." What ?"

" It's not turning on."

" I'll call, Dad and see what's up." Bella said walking over to the phone. Emma groaned giving up and walked over to see Bella pick up the phone confused." The house phone is down too."

The floor shifted from upstairs causing them both to look up. It was slow walks before a rush of air passed. Bella gasped jumping into Emma. Emma held her sisters arm scared hearing the footsteps now in the kitchen. Her eyes darted that way scared to what could have popped out.

" Bella move towards the door slowly." Emma whispered so quietly that Bella barely heard it. The girls moved together slowly towards the door one inch at a time. They were almost around the couch when the floor board under Emma's foot creaked loudly. Both girls gasped and listened. The only sound coming from their breathing. A hiss was heard and before they knew it something crashed into them knocking them to the floor. Emma banged her head against the floor, but was too scared to even care." Bella run !"

In the matter of seconds, Bella got up with Emma and ran towards the door, but a stool from the kitchen came flying at them causing them to duck.

" Emma !"

" Keep running !"

Bella got to the door first swinging the door open and running out with Emma not far behind. A tree branch was thrown almost causing Bella to lose her footing. Emma turned hearing her sisters yelp and crashed into someone's chest. She screamed loudly and went to punch the person, but missed.

" Emma, it's me !" Edward yelled seeing her scared face.

" Oh my god !" Emma cried burying her face into his chest shaking in fear.

He quickly looked to Bella." What happened ?!"

" Someone...was in the house. They attacked us !" Bella yelled standing next to him and looking to the house scared. Edward looked to it before his face went serious.

" What ?" Emma questioned, but she had no time to since Edward sped them all into her orange truck. He turned it on already backing out and heading somewhere." Edward, what's wrong ?"

" It was a vampire." Edward said Emma and Bella looked to each other worried. That's when they found themselves on the Cullen's living room couch waiting for a response from Jasper and Emmett. Being in the house made the two feel very safe. Luckily, Charlie called saying he wasn't going to be home for a while which was good due to the high alert. Esme smiled handing Hot Chocolate to the girls seeing how shaken up they were.

" Thank you."

" Who was it ? Someone we know ?" Carlisle asked.

" Just a stranger. I didn't recognize his scent." Edward said sitting next to Emma and holding her hand. Edward held her hand thinking she was scared, but Emma knew he held her hand more because he was the scared one.

" A nomad passing through ?"

" A passer-by wouldn't have left Bella and Emma alive."

" We almost didn't." Emma said feeling Edward tense.

"His scent disappeared about five miles south of their house." Jasper said walking into the room with Emmett making everyone look over to him.

" Someone's orchestrating this."

" Victoria ?" Bella asked and Emma looked to her before looking to the group seeing their faces. She looked to Edward seeing how tense he had gotten from the idea.

" Could it be her ?"

Alice shook her head. " I would've seen her deciding."

" It has to be the Voltaire."

" I don't think it's the Voltaire either. I've been watching Aro's decisions, too." Alice answered.

" So we keep looking."

" We also take shifts, guarding the girls at her house."

" Another protection detail ?" Rosalie groaned.

" Rosalie."

" No, she's right. You can't protect me, Bella, watch my dad... and search for the intruder. You might be vampires, but you still need your rest." Emma said looking over to him.

" And for Victoria."

" And keep yourselves fed. This is all too much" Emma said feeling bad for them all. She wishes some how she could help them.

" I'm not leaving you here defenseless."

" Well, I'm not gonna let you starve."

" And we wouldn't be unprotected, I have..." Bella was saying and stopped. Emma looked to her confused.

" You have who ?"

Emma and Bella came out the house with Jacob right behind them. Bella had a good idea. She knew Jacob being her boyfriend was going to want to protect her anyway he can. It would help the Cullen's hunt and the wolves to protect. Emma liked the idea, but she knew Edward hated it.

" Whoever it was, he left his stink behind. It'll be hard to miss when we cross it again. We'll handle it from here."

" We don't need you to handle anything. Or anyone." Edward said placing Emma more near him. She glared a bit annoyed by his behavior. He had no reason to be jealous or even upset with Jacob. Bella had the same face when she seen Jacob tense up and stand a bit taller.

" I could care less what you need."

" Alright, we're done here."

" No, you're done here !"

" Stop !" Emma yelled making the two men look over to her. When they saw her, they saw Bella and the amount of annoyance of their pale faces.

" We're tired of this. From now on we're Switzerland, Okay ?"

" Bella has a point. You both have no reason to be jealous, or upset, or always so damn tense with each other." She said and looked to Edward." Jacob will never hurt me okay. He's my best friend and he was there for me when you weren't. He protected me from Laurent and Victoria the first time."

" And Jake, Edward knew an intruder was in the house and what did he do ? He brought us both to his house to make sure we were okay and even though it was a lie, he protected us in Florida. He's a good guy."

" The point is you have to stop with this who's a better boyfriend business because it's stressing Bella and I out. Can you do that or not ?" Emma said looking to her boyfriend before looking to Jacob.

" Yes."

" Yes."
